Wow! This news isn't horribly disappointing in the least!

Remember that rumor about Goldeneye 64 getting remade for XBLA? Turns out it was true.

Note that I used the word "was"

Just two months (!) before release the game got scrapped because MS and Nintendo couldn't reach an agreement on how to split the revenue from the game. And while it apparantly wasn't the massive make-over that rumors were making it out to be (the only addition was online multiplayer and several characters wouldn't have even been in the game due to legal issues) its still really disappointing (if only because GE64 online would have kicked 10 years worth of ass).

Oh well, at least there's still the Goldeneye Source mod for HL2 coming out (assuming it ever gets completed).

Source

What sucks even more is that this probably means that the rumors about Banjo-Kazooie and PD being in the works for an XBLA release were also true but thanks to MS and Nintendo getting along have also been canned. Still, like the 1up article said, there's a possibility that if the community complains enough to MS and Nintendo that maybe they'll give negotiations another go.

I promise it's not as good as you remember it.

It's nostalgia. After playing Gears/Halo/COD, Goldeneye is not quite what you recall it to be.

Yeah, but getting to play the multiplayer again online would have been well worth the $10 it probably would have cost to download. Assuming of course that they redid the controls so that you could walk and aim at the same time and got rid of (or at least really toned down) the absurd auto-aim in the game. But even assuming the multiplayer hasn't aged very well it would have been worth it just for the nostalgia trip.
