This is probably going to sound really dumb, but how do you get xbox live silver? I do not have a 360 but my friend does, and i am getting one very soon.my friend cannot usehis xbox livegold trialbecause it says he needs silver. also, if i buy a 360 off ebay, is there any way that it might not have silver. cheers.

As soon as you sign up for Xbox Live you are given the rank of Silver. It's the standard rank issued to everyone, from there you can pay how ever much (monthly, tri-monthly, yearly) to be in Gold. I just got off my one month of Gold and to be honest I really wish it was back to gold but I don't feel like spending $56 on a service I won't fully use lol. If they came out with a Live card that was based upon how many hours you played online (100 Hour Subscription) then I'd probably buy that... Come on Live, take a price drop!!! (Toronto, Canada)

XBox Live 1 year gold cards are supposedly $29 right now at K-Mart. I haven't checked myself though...

All gamertags are automatically given Silver. If you have a new console and you create a new gamertag on it then it will give you a 1 month free trial of Gold. This only works for the first 3 gamertags created on a console, so a used console is likely to have used all its free trials. Also you would be safer just buying a new console as it will come with a fresh full warranty in case anything goes wrong with it. Traded in consoles will have used up a lot, if not all of their warranty period from MS, and will be the older hardware configuration that do not have the improvements to reduce the failure rate

Yep-when you create your gamertag and sign in for 1st time you get 1 months gold free and then it reverts to silver account if you dont set up some way of paying for gold account-cheapest option being by yearly or quarterly payment cards available from most good game shops and places like play.com
