can't i just plug in my 360 component cables to my receiver and have it play through surround sound?? i only have 1 optical cable input and my ps3 is using it.
The only way you"ll be getting surround sound is if you connect the 360 with HDMI or Optical cable... otherwise you'll be getting stereo out of all speakers.
I recommend you to use the same cable for both the 360 and the PS3 and just switch the cable between consoles when you play one or the other.
yeah cuz i dont have an hdmi port on my 360. but yeah i guess that is the only way. i was just figuring maybe you can plug the sound part of the component cables in the receiver. but the optical cable thing will work as well considering my ps3 is right near my 360 so it wont be a hassle to switch plugs.

Thats a perfect idea...but the only thing i would like to add is. If you change the OPT cable quite a bit then you run into a problem with the little tab that holds the cable into the slot for the 360/PS3 wears out and you start running into some sound glitches.
I did the switching of the cable for a bit a ran into this problem...The fix that worked for me is to pick up a A/V switch that allows you to plug all your equipment into a box that allows you to select the input you wish to use.
Here is a link to what i am talking about..you can find them for about 30 bucks
