Hey - first of all if anybody has any advice or can offer any feedback it would be most appreciated. So, to make a short story long - Heres the deal - The first x-box 360 I purchased lasted only about 7 months. After the RROD, I sent the 360 to Microsoft - who in turn sent me back a refurbished model. This refurbished model I gave to my brother as a gift. In the meantime, I went to my local Circuit City, and bought a new X-box 360 (20g) and was sure to purchase a warrantee with it this time ( spent $60.00 on it). In theory, if my xbox 360 broke again, I would just take it to Circuit City who would replace the unit, and they would handle the rest. I confirmed this w/ the sales associates. Well, as we know Circuit City has since closed its doors. And, of course my 360 just died (again). It was the ' E74' error, with the RROD in the lower right quadrant. Frustrating as I use the 360 only 3 to 5 hours per week if im lucky, and do take good care of the system. I contacted the third party administrator (who handles all the warrantes, etc) for Circuit City - They told me that my only option would be to send this unit back to Microsoft - and it would be coverered under tha manufactured warrantee? Thats all well and good, but I explained that I purchased the Circuit City warranty to avoid this type of situation! It fell on deaf ears. So - basically I spent the $60.00 for absolutely nothing ! - I am going to have to go through the same process I did w/ my last 360 - send it back to the manufacturer, wait a month, etc, etc.... I wanted to see if A.) anybody else has had this problem w/ Circuit City and b.) if so, how they handled the situation. In my opinion, I should AT LEAST be refunded the $60.00. The Waranty was absolutely useless. Thanks again for any help/advice any of you can provide!

it sucks to hear that. i kind of know what u mean. i bought a warranty from my local gamestop. it rrod's so i bring it to them, they tell me they are all sold out of xbox 360's. i had to go to another town over to get a 360. one of the stores had one so i got a new 360. i would say call them up again and demand a refund.

Never had this problem, reason I bought a 360 was because of the 3 years warrenty already given by Microsoft, this way I didn't need to spend money in-store. But what's done is done, your $60 might be gone :(

I read that Microsoft recently extended the warranty to cover all E74 errors within three years of purchase.

TC is mostly talking about the Circuit City warranty, which they bought, but can't use now, hence forth a giant rip-off. I'd call up and raise hell on getting a refund.

When CC was closing up shop I went up to see what deals that they had.I was buying somethings and I made A comment to the sales clerk, what I said was so much for my TV warrenty .The sales clerk told me that the Warranties are not handled by them. The clerk also told me that they have always been handled by the warranty company and not CC.So even though CC is gone the Warranty company is still hanling Warranty claims.Do you have your paper work from when you baught the 360?The things you need should be on that paper work.

Thanks for the replys everyone - yea, I do have all the orig paperwork (receipts, etc). When I contated the "assurant solutions' company (the company who handles the warranty's for CC) and gave them a description of the problem (e74 error) they told me I would just have to contact Microsoft Customer Support. The good news is since I bought it on 9/20/08 and it has the E74 error - Microsoft will fix this for me (looks like up to 3 years) - so thats good, but I think my main frustration is simply dishing out sixty bucks for basically nothing. If I knew I was just going to have to ship the sytem back to microsoft anyway, I would have just used that 60 bucks for Fallout 3 or something. Well....i guess its just going to have to be live and learn. And the kicker is I also bought a nice Vizio HD TV from Circuit City - and since it was a rather large $$ purchase I spent like 300.00 bucks on the Warranty for that ! I just hope that never breaks!!!! What a ripoff !

The official close date for Circuit City was March 8, 2009...how long before then had you bought your Xbox from them? It just sounds to me that something like this would be illegal, for a company to take money like that.

The purchase date @ circuit city (for both the x-box 360 and the 'warantee') was 9/20/08 - about 6 months before they closed shop.

Yeah, and you'd think that Circuit City would know six months prior to closing that they would indeed be. Sounds fishy to me. Do you happen to know any lawyers?

Yeah I thought extended warranties were handled through that 3rd party company and before closing down Circuit City did say that all those warranties would be honored. I don't know whats happening with them just telling you to go to MS with it.

umm u call ask for supervisor and complain and get refund for the warranty because warranty is when a store promises to fix a problem so ya i wouldn't send it off to them if they made u just get refund. stores can take ages before even sending you something in mail. microsoft is little faster with their returns then before
