Are they durable? Not in the slightest. Are they worth it? Hell yeah they are!

You sound like me when I was thinking about getting an xbox 360.I've only had mine's for 1 month but it works fine.

If you get the Red Rings Of Death, then you just send it to microsoft and get it repaired. All 360's have a 3 year warranty to cover the RRoD.On the other hand, there are people who just don't keep good care of it.

Don't forget that just because you get a 360, doesn't mean it will break. There are still people who have had their's since launch with no problems.I've played all 3 console (360,wii and ps3) and my favorite is the 360.Great,games,great graphics, and the best online play available.

Buy it, you probably won't regret it.

Here's some care tips in case your interested:

1.Keep 360 in well ventilated room.

2.Do not place in enclosed space or place on carpet.

3.Don't play for like 7 hours straight.

4.Don't use intercoolers.

5.Keep 360 and area around it clean.

I've had my 360 since launch and it hasn't broken down on me yet. Keep it in an open area! I take mine places all the time on trips, and nothing happens to it, so its pretty durable. Just don't try taking a hammer to it.

They are not durable. The good thing is if it does break, it will get fixed better than new. Of course, better than new in the 360's case brings it to how it should have been in the first place.

The downside is it takes months for them to fix it. They should send you a rental-Box in the meantime.

so far mines fine. the chances of getting a faulty one are still lowish so i wouldnt let that put me off. MS also have a nice warranty now so if it does go boom then theyll fix it. even better, ure store will probably exchange ot for ya there and then (they do here in ireland....we never have to deal with the manufacturer here).

if ure worried about it on the verge of RR or are not confident with the machine then doa burn in test. i did it with mine because it sounded quite loud and i had a bad hunch. since the test my confidence in my machines is at a high.

get the most demanding but stable game u can think of (gears probably) and keep it running for many hours (i kept mine going for about 9). play it as much as possible but even if u want to do somethig else...leave the game running. thatll run the crap out of ure console. if its faulty then the fault will more than likely pop up in the test. after the test...check the disc for scratches n stuff. if there are scratches then the console is faulty. if the console locks up at any stage then its faulty. and obhiously RROD means faulty. also check for corrupted graphics while playing at later stages of the test....that also means the GPU is overheating (but not quite enough to crash) and is faulty.

note: dont use oblivion....bethesda make great but buggy games. a lock up while playing that wouldnt indicate a hardware prob.

obhiously u do need to keep the consoles fans free so that good ventilation is available and keep it out of direct sun light (applies to all consoles). also never ever move it while its running...thats asking for trouble.

I had the Red Rings of Death once.

Called Microsoft Customer Support, gave them my info.

First week got the box to send it in, sent it, got it back in another week brand new, didn't take my GoW decals or anything. Just if you do send it in make sure not to send it with a custom faceplate, they send it back with a new Original White one.

is the 360 better in a vertical or horizontal position?

Vertical: takes less place has more of a chance of tipping over and breaking

Horizontal: takes more place has less of a chance of tipping over and breaking

Go for it. You can't go wrong with a three-year warranty, and the odds of a crap-out are even slimmer now than they were at launch.

The Xbox 360 for me has been the worst electronics device in terms of durability I have bought in my life, poor. But still, guess I was unlucky to, if it wasnt for live and the great games I would have ditched it a long time ago.
