I have a 20GB Hard drive for the Xbox360, and a few days ago I noticed that it really is only capable of holding 13.6GB or something really close to that area. My Xbox360 just broke today and a technician told me that I had to pay $100 to get it fixed. I just decided it would be stupid to do that, when I could just buy a brand new 60GB system for $300. My hard drive is almost completely full so I am getting a new hard drive regardless, but I'm just wondering if the 60GB hard drive really has 60GB, and if the 120GB really has 120GB. I don't want to buy a 60GB Pro system and find out that it really has 45GB, and I don't want to buy a 120GB Elite system to find out that it has 80GB. If someone could please tell me how many GB are really in a 60GB and how many gigs are really in a 120GB, it would be greatly appreciated. It would also be nice if someone would tell me whether I should buy the Pro (60GB) or the Elite (120GB). I think it would be weird to have white controllers and acecceries with a black system. The Pro is $300 and the Elite is $400. They are both exactly the same except for color, data capacity, and the Elite comes with a $50 HDMI cable that I will be buying if I get the Pro anyway. So it basically comes down to whether I want the extra 60GB for $50 or not. Share your experiences and do your best to help me out, and sorry for all the mispellings. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Buy the elite. BTW you will have a black controller and headset with it, and u can always buy a $10 skin from Gamestop for the other one.

The 60 gig would have around 50-55 gigs of space. Hard drives need room for there own cache.

Yeah I know, but I have 4 controllers (for some reason they always break on me, even though I don't throw them or mash the buttons) and they are all white. Just the same with my 2 charger kits. I like the look of the white system better anyway, its just all about whether I should pay $50 for the extra space. I believe I may just go Pro in case it breaks again. I am on my 6th Xbox 360 in 2 years!

Thanks man, its good to know that. I'm also glad to know they need room for the cache, I didn't think of that. Now I know that Microsoft didn't just rip me off. Would you happen to know how much space a 120GB would have? Thanks.

Are you really going to use 120gb though? Ive had my 360 since launch and it has a 20 gb and if your saying they all come with like 13gb mine says i still have 12.5 gb free. Theres a 50 buck difference between the two and 50 bucks is alot (to me anyways lol)

I dunno, but to me it`s worth it because I have about 6 or 7 games I play regularly and I wouldn`t have room on the 60g to copy them. I save wear on the dvd drive (costs $100 to fix) and any poss. damage that it could cause to the game, all the while saving load times and making my already VERY cool and quiet elite to run even cooler and quieter.

all hard drives are like that. it doesn't show the real capacity. try lookin at your computer's hard drive capacity under My Computer, it won't be the same capacity as what ever your hard drive said about it's capacity. as for 120GB, it would show 111.76 GB or something close to that

You guys do realize a size of a byte of 1024, not 1000. Hard drive manufactures rate bytes as 1000, when in reality they are 1024, hence your lost space.

The only problem with Elite's is, well from first hand experience of myself and friends, they seem to break down sooner. I had my Elite for maybe 3 months before it crapped out on me. My friend had his for about 6 months and the same thing happened. Mine was, at first, the three red rings of death. I let it sit for a week or two and tried it again and it worked OKAY, it was a little laggy and games randomly froze. Then it just stopped working all together and I got a system error E-74 (one red ring in the bottom right corner.) I'm in the process of sending the elite in since it's still under warrenty. However, one of my other friends bought a pro about two years ago and it's still running strong, and he plays the heck out of it. We now have an arcade, until we get my elite back and it's running fine with the 120gb harddrive off of the elite.

I don't know if we just got faulty hardware, or if all elites are more prone to system errors and break downs. BUT! I must say I miss the elite a lot. It seemed to run smoother and had better quality, but I'm not for sure on that. :P Plus the harddrive off of it was definitely a winner.
