I have mine horizontal - the largest opening for cool air to get in is at the bottom if you had it vertically, and would get blocked by the surface you put it on.

I have mine vertical right now, but there's enough space around it.

If you look at the console horizontal just seems more logical.

Horizontal is more stable, leaves open all of the vents, allows you to put your disks in at what to looks like a safer angle.

I have had mine break (RROD) both ways so whatever fits your space better. Personally I think loading it when it's horizontal is easier.

I have mine horizontal because it eliminates the risk for it to fall down and scratch the disc.

The best way to have your 360 is horizontal, it eliminates the risk of knocking into it and lazer burning a disc.

I see this thread/question daily...

Stand your Xbox 360 Horizontally.

1) Vertically will increase the chance of disc scratching, any bump or even a jiggle from jumping around too much.
2) Vertically also increases your chances of RROD. The biggest vent in your entire Xbox is at the bottom which you block when you stand it vertically. See for yourself.

There are no drawbacks to having it horizontally. The writing across the drives are even written horizontally, making me believe that's the way it was supposed to be...The PR probably made the vertical push.

Horizontal is the best way cus you stand less of chance of scratching your games up that way.

I recently got a new plasma and mounted it on the wall. I now have my consoles on the shelf that my TV used to sit. So, they are all sitting vertical.

Mine had been horizontal since launch, up until it RROD'd on me earlier this year. I've been going with vertical since it returned.

as many have stated horizontal is the much safer and better route. make sure not to put anything on top of the system and covering up the holes it has to vent heat.

Veritcal as I have no room for it, but its sandwiched between a speaker and a chest of drawers so no chance of falling, just hope it has enough room to breathe! lol

Mine is placed vertical so most vents are open to air to reduce over heating. Now I dont think that it matters which way as long as you are carefull. I am pretty much a freak about takin care of gaming consoles. I unplug it all like weekly to dust it all out and the area around it. I have never played it for like more than 5 hours straight and I unplug it when it is not in use.

When it's vertical it blicks vents it doesn't open them there's a crucial vent closed when it's standing up.

Back on topic: i keep mine horizontal it's more easy and eliminates risks of my 360 falling and getting a scratched disk.

I've gotten the RRoD 6 times when I had it laying horizontal. When I switched it to Vertical, I haven't had any more problems for almost a year now. But whatever suits you better.

not exactly chief. I had my original one horizontal religeously, and it wound up chewing on my copy of Gears and Saints Row. I've had no problems since going vertical.

Horizontal, lower chance of disk losing control and going haywire.
