So I set my 360 up on my big screen HDTV and when I flicked the little switch to HD I got no picture. But when i flipped it back I got picture again

Any suggestions???

before switching the switch go to the display settings and set it to your preferred settingIf you have a 720 p tv don't set it to 1080i leave it at its native resolution unless you have a 1080p tv then u shiould set it to 1080i. Note if u do not have a toslink u will not get hd sound.

Make sure you are also using the correct cables, you need to use the component ones, the 3 that are Red, Green, and Blue. You will no longer need the Yellow one for video.
