Hey everyone... I purchsed an Xbox 360 on December 22, 2005.. Its the loud, hot version with the bonus media remote.. when i bought it i purchased the 2 year extended warranty.. did the new three year warranty they added extend mine to five years???

Also, I havent had any problems with my xbox 360. This doesnt seem right because everyone says that all the launch consoles crashed. So im expecting it to get RROD any minute.. do you recommend buying a console with a new SKU?

The warranty was extended TO 3 years, not BY 3 years. Mostly, everything about the warranty is exactly the same but the RROD is now covered for 3 years. Other stuff is not covered beyond the warranty as it was before the 3 year extension was announced. So if your 360 DVD drives at the 2.5 year time, it won't be covered.

I actually bought my 360 on Dec 23rd 2005. It died on me and was replaced by a 360 that was manufactured 3 days after mine. I am waiting for this one to die too. Hopefully it happens this year so I still get coverage.

I wouldn't go out and buy a new 360 just because your current one "might" RROD on you. You might as well just wait for it to happen so MS can fix it for you. If I was in your shoes I would almost prefer it die soon so I could get it replaced with one that has a much better chance of lasting well into the future.

Mine is a launch system also, and I've never had a problem with it. Basically, if it doesn't RROD within the first month, it probably won't.

If you purchased the Microsoft 2 year service contract you should have received a letter from Microsoft that says because of the 3 year warranty for general hardware failure that your service contract will be extended by two years for RROD only. So you had the one year warranty for all issues that is extended to 3 years with the contract and the 3 year RROD warranty that you are now covered for a total of 5 years for.

I have a luanch console, last febuary it rrod on me, but then it was fine until this January I was installing FFXI and went to sleep only to wake up and see those 3 red eyes staring at me again, but I turned it off then on and it worked fine, then about 2 weeks ago my disc drive wouldnt close so after about 45 minutes of fighting with it, I got mad and punched the disc drive (it then closed), I put a game in and my 360 growled at me and said I must place this disc in and Xbox 360 console, so I tried another game and got the same message, So I put in a movie and it wouldnt play, about 20 minuted later my girlfriend put in a game and my 360 is apparently sexist and it worked for her. It has since played everything fine. I think in the next day or so I am going to go try to find an Elite, so I have the bigger HD, hdmi ports, a new extended warranty, and last but not least a backup 360.
