Xbox 360 Overheating Issue - Possibly dust

My Xbox 360, which I purchased in 2006, is having overheating issues which aren't being remedied by the official xbox recommendations. My xbox is in a very well ventilated area with plenty of breathing room, not near other hot objects, etc.

However, there is a fair bit of dust in my room, especially in that area, and I think that a lot of dust has gone into the xbox 360. Would it be advisable to attempt to clean this dust? If so, does anyone have a good way of doing this?

Also, I don't suppose anyone would know if I am still under warranty or how I could find this out? I have had some free work done in past for RRoD but nothing very recently. I would assume I am not still under warranty due to the age of the console, but if anyone has further information on this it would be much appreciated.

Sorry but you are definately past the warranty. Some things to point out that I was unaware of is apparently the power block has a fan in it too and if it starts over heating then the console will also. So make sure your brick has breathing room as well. There isn't a problem with dusting your console off but I wouldn't suggest trying to get the dust from inside the console as to who knows what else you would be vaccuming up and risk drawing dust into say the disk reader lens (not very technical but I can't remember it's name). We had our first slim over heating all the time and resorted to buying a small table fan to constantly be blowing on it but in the end I think that threw more dust in it. With our GoW3 xbox we bought one of those fans you attach directly to the console (for $14) and it works amazing. 2006...I think that was the ones before the slim, well nyko makes an innercooler you can clip on that system too and I hear they work just as well.
