Found out after a one time live purchase I have been racking up debt to xbox. I received no emails of auto renewal, nothing. Ive read similar complaints across many other forums, I think the transparency and the lies from xbox are bad. Im a hardcore 360 fan and now have reason to dislike them. According to "Bill" I was charged in september, then they charged in October even without money on the card, still no call or email, then november, no money on card again, and thats when they shut it all off, I dont even have the silver thats promised free to everyone. I work for a law firm and am thinking about taking xbox's broken and transparent terms of service up as a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Anyone else have these problems? If so, let me know so maybe you can be apart, its time money hungry companies learn the customer is first.

Been with MS since orig xbox and never had a problem. My problem with your story is you say you don't have silver (basic free service) but you say you purchased something on live (which requires at least silver to do). As per your purchase if you bought a membership even a one month one it states pretty clearly that it will be on an auto renewal system until you cancel. There is no way to purchase a movie or game on live and be signed up for gold by doing so. I also call foul on your story since you say they didn't email you of not having funds on your card. I can tell you my wife and I both have accounts and her subscription reupping kept hitting us when we were broke and they not only emailed her about it but they hounded us everyday via email. On the other side of the silver problem if you are saying you lost it in the (they shut everything off part) well thats a thing they call being banned. After not paying them for gold for so long ,and I know they give you quite a few months before action, they ban your account for non-payment. When you mention "I don't even have the silver thats promised free to everyone" that leads me to read into that phrase and say you had gold but now you don't even have silver. Meaning you subscribed to gold didn't pay and got banned. Not trying to come off mean but things aren't fitting properly in your "problem".

i would have called bull on his story based on his posting level and his sentence structure. "i work for a law firm yet i write like a 8 year old."

I didn't really read into the OP or the reply very carefully, but I notice in the reply you mentioned you can't purchase from the Marketplace without Gold. That's completely false, I have done it before. I do know for a fact that you can't get a demo until a week after release, though. As for the rest of the story, I don't really have a comment.

No he claimed he made a purchase on live and boom suddenly started getting charged for a gold membership. I was meaning you can't go on live and buy limbo and suddenly now you are enrolled into gold as well. I know you can buy stuff on silver but it doesn't mean that if you buy something while on a silver membership that suddenly you are upgraded to gold.

I get the distinct feeling what youve done is youve bought a gold membership and being a complete fool rather than a lawyer you didnt bother reading the small print (which is actually pretty big) and had a shock when you were charged the renewal ... sorry but usualy when this sort of thing happens its down to the user being unable to read

There is always an email for auto renewal before it happens. Check your spam box.
