Where i come from...the power goes off every 3 or 4 hours...will anything happen to my xbox 360 if the power goes off during gameplay? Will the xbox 360 be damaged or is it like PS2 where i can just switch the power off without worry??

where are you from? i'm from zimbabwe and i always have that problem. there's no issue with power going while you're playing. its happened to me on many occasions, sometimes even while the tray was open but as soon as power comes back, i never have issues with my 360. i just always make sure i unplug it from the mains so it doen's get hit by a surge when power comes back on. i have noticed though that if power goes just when the 360 is reading the disc it has a problem reading the disc again when power comes back on. i figured it must be the disc tray mechanism kinda getting stuck out of position coz of lack of power. usually opening and closing the tray, then restarting the xbox does the trick.

uh, yes it can. Go grab a decent surge bar. Normally you do not want your electronics NOT plugged into a surge (power) bar. Electronics are finicky things. If i notice a surge, or sudden drop in power (just watch your lights in your house) i always turn stuff off and wait a bit before turning them back on.

It can harm your 360, but im not saying it will.

thats what i thought BUT if you read the manual that came with the 360 it says DO NOT to use a surge protector! the point i was trying to make is that most surges happen when power is restored. i thought of getting a surge bar but the manual clearly says you shouldn't. i've also noticed that during a surge my LCD monitor and other gadgets may reset but in most cases my 360 stays on as normal.

honestly i'm no electronics expert but nothing has ever happened to mine in the 1 year of constant power outages. my 360 is yet to crap out on me. I can safely say from experience that nothing will happen to your xbox. as for the surge protector thing, go for it if you wish but the manual advises against it and also says you should plug it directly to the wall socket(which i am guilty of not doing coz i only have one working socket in my room where xbox is so its hooked to up to multi-plug adaptor).
