So, I got the new xbox slim and I like it. But, the main reason I got it was for the "whisper quiet" feature. It's annoying when you are playing an atmospheric game like Alan Wake and you can hear the CD thrashing in the drive. This one is much more quiet, but "whisper quiet?" I don't know, the fan is pretty loud and you can hear the disk spin up and down. Anyone else agree? To me if a product is advertised as "whisper quiet" then it should be much quieter than this.

That is not good to hear , I was planning to replace my current Xbox with the new slim for the whisper quiet feature as I think my current one is far to loud. I agree I don't wanna hear the disc spinning or the fan going when I am playing and it is at the point where you have to turn the TV volume up. I also don't wanna install all my games just so that I can play them it is really annoying.

To you think its worth the upgrade ???

Then it is your own idiot fault for not taking advantage of a feature.

My current Jasper is pretty damn quiet whenever I play games. I just install them all.

If there is a problem, maybe you should be interested in installing games, so you don't have to hear the noise the DVD makes spinning at 12X.

Maybe your xbox doesnt have enough room to breathe so the fans spin harder?

Why do people have such a problem installing a game to their hard drives? It doesn't take that long. And if you have a 60+ gig hard drive, it's at least worth it to install the game you play the most. Installing saves not only time by increasing loading speeds, but energy and extends the life of your Xbox, plus it makes even the old ones "whisper quiet."

After installing, I noticed that I got into Battlefield matches online quicker than other players after the between-round break. I really see no reason not to install at least one game if you have a 60 GB hard drive.

well he's actually correct though...

and the fan runs a lot less (on my original Elite) when I'm not running discs from the drive. I can't even hear my 360 when I play, and I'm not one for having the volume way up on my TV (8-10 bars, and the volume has 80 bars max)

so maybe you should try it.

I have so much DLC . BETAs and DEMOS on my HDD so I dont really have room to install everything , I agree it worth installing some games , If I am playing to play a gameintensivelyor if I am going to use the online functionality. My other consoles and even my PC are quiter to play games on. I was just hoping that the new slim was going to be quieter as promised.

How quiet do you have your TV volume?

I have a 20gb Premium and I don't hear the noise of the disk.

Strangely, I've played a lot of games on my new xbox, and Alan Wake makes the most noise of all.

There is no way you can have a disc drive spin at the speed the Xbox 360 does, and have have it completely quiet. What's the problem with installing the games? There like 5 gigs and it takes 10 min. Just keep the one your playing most on the HDD. I can't tell my xbox 360 slim is even on with games installed.

Everything runs hotter with the disc spinning to whole systems runs hotter= More need for fans. Don't get why it's a problem...

Well I'm not buying it, mine is whisper quiet. Of the 5 people I know that have a 360S, they're consoles are all whisper quiet. You can't hear the fan unless you have your ear right on the console. I guess yours is broke, I'd say return it.

Also, why are people still calling this damn thing the "slim" never once did Microsoft ever call said console "slim"

Have you had someone whisper in your ear? It ISN'T quiet. :P Jk jk. On a serious note, they didn't promise super silent or "no noise" slim version. It's definitely better than the original 360's though.

i have launch 20gb pro console. suck it up mate, ur's is quieter then mine BY A LONG SHOT. just turn ur volume up or something. the time taken to install a game is HUGELY positive with teh time gained while NOT having to wait for laoding and streaming in game.

i wish i havea 360 S witha bigger HDD so i COULD install games.....i have less then 6 gb left on mine. cant install JACK!
