Does anyone know if this happens? I just lost my xbox to a open tray error and I was wondering if it happens on the Slim.

I haven't heard of it happening on the 360S. They do seem to be built a lot better than the older ones.
this problem is now as big as the RROD i think, my current console has started to do this and ive read countless posts from other people recently who are experiencing the same problem, ironically ive never had the RROD but im on my 5th machine and this is my second console which has had this problem
I have a elite from last xmas and within the last few months more and more of my games had started to show up as "open tray" error.
What seemed odd was tht it had only occured after i had to update my 360 when i went on LIVE. But they say that the updates can't do that.
So yesterday i decided to take mine apart since it's out of warrenty. I took it apart and used canned air to clean the inside. I also took apart the dvd rom and cleaned it out good and any plugs within the 360 i unplugged and plugged back in.
After i put it back togetyher , it now plays all my games fine.
Guess it was just dirty inside and not the update.
If yor out of warrenty you should try it, maybe you will be lucky lke me and find out it was just dirty.
No problems with my slim since the week it was announced. I've used it pretty much every day opening/closing the tray with games & movies. Could be a rare malfunction on yours. Just take it back if its under warranty.Does anyone know if this happens? I just lost my xbox to a open tray error and I was wondering if it happens on the Slim.

It's true that they are built much better, but they seem to use the same peice of crap cd tray. I noticed the very first time I opened it and this will be the next RRoD. I'm not saying this because it's not a slot loader (which it should be) but because they did't improve it at all. I wish they would make it like my dreamcast, that works perfectly fine after 9+ years of being hooked up and played often and just have a flip open tray. But them days are gone, probably due to pirates and disk swapping and all that juckI haven't heard of it happening on the 360S. They do seem to be built a lot better than the older ones.

Just to reiterate yes there is and has been a problem like this for about several months now. Whenever there is an update to install somehow it affects the console laser and stops it from reading. The other problem is that the console screws that align the laser can also come loose and prevent the laser from reading anything at all on the console. There are numerous problems with these updates and the screws coming loose that allows the lasers to read the disc.
