[QUOTE="fifthagent"]First of all there is no magic formula for keeping your 360 in working and RROD-less operation. The hardware is/was faulty and if you are lucky enough to get a console that is not faulty then you should not have any problems. People seem to think that placing it here or there or turning it sideways or upright seem to have a bearing on the life of their system. It doesn't.The problem was/is with the hardware and if you get a lemon it will break regardless of what you do. I mean c'mon, is it really that difficult to care for a console? Keep it ventilated and don't go swimming while wearing it as a bathing suit. Basically just usecommon sense and you should befine. It's pretty much that simple. At any rate,it is probable that the console that you get (sweet Christmas present btw) will have the new GPU and heatsync which should greatly reduce the likelihood of you getting the RROD.carljohnson3456
Exactly. I babied my 360 since day one, and it's crapped on me twice. It's all about whether or not you get lucky pretty much. You shouldnt have to jump through hoops to keep it working... if it's going to break down, it's going to break down regardless.
I've been lucky.. I bought one from the first batch and watched others with all these problems. I've had mine vertical and horizontal, played it for hours and hours more than a few times and never had more of a problem than say it freezing up for some odd reason and needing a reset. (very rare) Other than that it's been great and I'm not particulary careful. Just don't do something stupid like block air from the intake holes. (ex. put in on carpet) Also if it's sitting in a cabinet and you close the door because it's a wireless controller etc. Obviously it will get alot hotter being in a mostly enclosed enviroment. Common sense is your friend.
(knock on wood, I've been expecting this sucker to fail for some time now... I had already sold myself on buying a newer one sometime with the cooler chip / hdmi when needed.)
