Looks like I might be able to open my Christmas present a little early! I created this thread because I want to know what I can do to make sure that my box 360 lasts a long time.

Its the slim version. I have done my research and heve yet to talk to anyone who has not recerved the RROD on the Xbox. I have heard that you need to make sure it is in a well ventilated spot, it helps to install the game on the HDD, that you should lay the console falt as opposed to standing. What other tips are there? I generally take good care of my systems and have never had problems with them (except PS2 still under warranty).

Has anyone owned their Xbox for a long time and never had any issues?

Thanks in advance.

I have 2 one launch model from dec. 2005 also another one 2 yrs. old almost . So far no issues at all (knock on wood) . I install games to hdd always its runs cooler quietier less wear and tear on the disc drive.. I keep mine horizontal and well ventalated. Guess im lucky dunno but ive had better luck with 360's than my PS2's and PS'3 so far....

I had a launch 360 (well Jan 06) that lasted me until I traded it for a 250GB Slim in May. I never had a single problem with it. It never even froze up on me, and this is with many hours of playing.

I just kept it clean and had it sitting in a shelf in my entertainment center, but it was able to breath. I made sure all the vents were clear, and it never sat close to the wall of the cabinet. When all the RRoD stuff started to happen I went to the store and bought little sticky felt feet and raised the console up so the bottom vent was clear also. I'm not sure if that is why I never had a problem with it or not.

The Slims seem to be a lot better built and cooler. People will say that they get hot around the big vent on the top/side, and they do, but that is what they are supposed to do. Just make sure you keep it vented, and you should be good.

Do not move it after playing games, I tried moving mine from horizontal to vertical. While it was still a bit hot, bam! RRoD!

i've had 2 xboxes and almost 3 years of live. the only time i've had a problem with it is when i nerd raged while playing halo and kicked it. i keep it laying flat, its on a nightstand next to my tv, with nothing blocking the vents, and i dont have any special faceplates or anything on it. so it seems like if you keep it ventilated and don't throw it at stuff you should be good
