I got a falcon model for x-mas and I was wondering which is better and why? (Note I have a special gaming stand so cooling isn't really a problem for me as I have airflow anyway I put it.)

Also can your discs get scratched in the vertical position even if you don't move it?
you should put it horizontal becuase when you put it vertical there is a spot on the bottom of the xbox that sucks in air and that spot gets covered,when you put it horizontal that spot isnt covered anymore so it gets cooled better

Actually, the fans in the Xbox 360 are located in the back of the console right above where you plug the power supply in, and also there is a plastic kind of "cover" that leads the fans air flow area, straight to what I think is the GPU(?). So in my opinion, having it vertical or horizontal doesn't affect airflow at all. The fans are still exposed.
I think it's somewhat risky putting it vertically so I have mine horizontally.I don't think it affects the air flows either way.Just don't try to put it vertically or horizontally while the game is running because it will scratch your game[I learned it the hard way].
Most of the problems with scratching occur when you switch the orientation while the disk is spinning. So you should be fine either way. I personally keep mine horizontal.
I keep mine vertical, however I personally would prefer horizontal as it looks better and also I'm afraid of me or someone knocking it over. I keep mine vertical though because I'm already on my third console and I know have a fan so I might aswell ensure complete airflow and increase the lifetime of the console even more.
Vertical for us simply because with all the other components, it takes up the least amount of space. When hubby bought the 46" LCD, I had to get rid of my nice cabinet cause he bought that TV stand at Best Buy, too. When we had the cabinet, I kept it horizontal, but we just had to sacrifice too much space with the new stand.
