Like most 360 players, my Xbox red-ringed once and got repaired and then went officially kaput 3 months later. The first time it broke I bought a new console, Halo edition, and attempted to use my wireless adapter but it wouldn't pick up any signal even though it was kept in the same location as the first console. When the red-ringed console was returned repaired the netowrk adapter worked exactly as it supposed to. The USB port appears ok on the Halo console as I can hook an ipod up through it but the wireless adapter will receive no signal regardless of the USB port that I use on my second console. btw, the Halo edition console red-ringed on me out of the box...booted to nothing. Plugged it in and straight three red lights. By the time I had the Halo console back from repairs the original one came back within the next week.

My question is, does MS tie the wireless adapter to a console with some software coding? I used the hard drive from my original console and tried the new hard drive with the Halo console and still nothing but a red light coming from the wireless adapter. Anyone have any knowledge on this? I am stumped...and ofcourse pissed off but that's just the money bleeding from my fanboy pockets talking.

dont tie up each adaptor with one console, i know this because most weekends i take my adaptor to my friendsan use it on his, then his 1st one red ringed and he desided to upgrade and get the elite. The adaptor worked just fine so the final word is, no it does not tie to on console.

have you inputed all the correct data in the network setings?

Ummm so the halo one didnt even turn on to begin with? if thats the case, and thats what I read. then the wireless adapter probably works on it., but you needed to "turn it on". and since you couldnt do that, you would have no connection..as one might presume.;)

One reply states that he takes his adapter everywhere so perhaps it was this one Halo edition console that is no good. It's all I have working now so I don't want to upset the gods and bad mouth my one working console at the moment.

The wireless adapter worked flawlessly for a year on my original 360. Then three red lights. I received the Halo console about a week after my original 360 went blammo. The Halo console, right outta the box, RRoD...still bitter. Sent them in for repairs at same time and got Halo console back first, the wireless adapter would not work on it even when I used the hard drive from my original 360 with all of the original network settings still saved on it that had worked for a year. When I received the original 360 back and plugged in the wireless adapter it worked inside of 2 seconds of boot up. The wireless adapter just said at it's error message on the Halo console that no signal could be found and the wireless router is three feet away. The Wii downstairs and two rooms over can link up to the this router no problem so the signal is just fine. The wireless adapter would only work with the original console that I had it plugged into so I thought that it might have been DRM'd, if that's even the right term for this situation, like the arcade games. Whatever the case, I'll eventually get another console as I want one downstairs so I'll see then if this is a one off situation or what.

Now original console has gone kabloie for good, yesterday...I was getting sound but no picture, I could here the boot and the auto-log into live and could start a game without any picture or flicker on the screen, nothing but sound. Now it has FOUR RED LIGHTS!!! There is no picture, no sound...nada. It's not worth it to me to send it in and with four red lights it probably isn't covered by warranty and shipping from where I live, islands, is prohibitive to say the least.

Microsoft hardware from the first generation wasn't good to me either. I went through three of the original xbox's. I actually didn't have a friend who didn't go buy at least two of the original xbox's. Now the majority of people I know with 360's have had RRoD. I probably only know about 8 guys or so but 6 have RRoD'd. I like the software, sorry if that pisses people off, but the hardware is just no good.

Thanks for the note and if you got this far, you are empathizing I'm sure.

Cheers,
