In my opinion it's not a waste of time because it;s very fun and great thing to do with friends. If you like stated in a previous post play games instead of doing things you need to do then it's a bad thing. If you use your spare time to play games and have fun great idea but if you're someone that gets angry a lot when playing games then it can be waste.
its a waste of time in the same way watching TV or going to the movies CAN BE waste of time. IF you are doing those things in your leisure time then it doesnt matter...thats what leisure time is. Time you set aside for youself to unwind, relieve stress, or just hang out and relax. But if you have some important stuff to do, (like study, find a job, etc.) and you are playing video games instead, then you are being irresponsible and wasting your time.pancho76
Im sorry but this guy said it best. I rather play games than stare at my TV watching the crap they put on these days. If it was a few years back then watching TV was almost better than playing games. (Damn you cartoon network. Ruined toonami :() As long as you got the free time then playing games is not a waste because you are doing something you enjoy. But if you have other things to do that are important to your life like work and school and you are playing games instead, then you are screwing yourself over.

toonami buddy wow you are a waste.
and to the question yes it can be a waste but so is watching sports, reading a book, drinking beer but you have to enjoy life.
It's escapism, just like TV and alot of other things. This stuff isn't bad as long as your life don't revolve around it.
Just make sure you do everything in moderation and it'll be alright. That means do stuff that will keep you healthy, go run lift weights, spend time with family and friends, read a book, get religion and get some hobbies. If you find it easy to game 5+ hours a day every day then you need to get a life.

well since its in the 360 forum i think 360ing is more suitable :-P
many of you state that it is the equivalent to movies and such. but i tell my parents that and they say that a movie is only like 1 1/2 hrs...what should i say to that? (i want to say something cleaver to like make them think that video games arent as bad as they r portrayed. they always bring up GTA and people mimicking what u do in gtapygmahia5ohhh this is about your PARENTS thinking it's a waste of time. okay, well, think of it this way. you pay $10 (at least here you do) for a movie ticket, and the movie lasts an hour and a half. you pay $60 for a game like mass effect, which lasts 30+ hours. so, 6 movies for the price of one game is about 12 hours of entertainment, give or take, compared to 30+. both are entertaining, but which gives you more for your money?

Also if you add the fact of food/drinks which if bought at a movie theatre it's really expensive. Plus you OWN the games you can't get anything for watching a movie. Also factor in replayability and xbl.
Man, it all depends on your goals and values! My dad always thought that playing even some time is a waste of money cuz he is that kind of person that has a life principle of alwaysimproving and moving forward. He was used to say that rather then partying or playing it would be more useful to study and work. But no matter what he says or what people think all of us need rest and leaisure time. And then it is all up to you, I mean reading good books probably cuold make more contribution and give pleasure at the same time but only if you that kind of guy. If you prefere spend 2 hours a day playing Video games it is not bad at all. I personaly do almost the same thing you do, play small aounts of time. I believe that playing video games a lot is HUGE WASTE OF TIME. Damn, life is so short and while playing you could have been doing so much better things. If some people start saying stuff like "well I am happy with what I am and I dont need to do better things in my life there is no purpose for that bla bla bla..."those are just excuses for loosers, moving forward is in our nature, if people were always doing what they wanted to do not what was right to do we still would have been in a stone age.
Anyways, to darn long thought! If you are playing while your leasure time and that is what you like-go for it, if you are doing it exessively, go hang yourself!
Good LUck
i actually was out of the video game phase for 2 months. Lost weight, played my guitar more, had better social activities. But now im playing games again and i find myself not getting in shape anymore, havent touched my guitar in awhile, but im still socially active.
So in a sense, it can be a waste of time, especially if you dont know how to manage your time like me.
depends what you call a waste realy, sure thers always more productive things you could do but then again you could do those things rather then hanging out with your mates so realy it is up to you wether its a waste of time or not
for me i just use it when mates arnt around and i don't want to do homework
well if you play games which involve aiming... like cod4, halo, geow etc... you are basically increasing your skills for higher precision operations in the medical field...so if you become a doctor and do stitches and stuff...you should have no problem doing it...
saw it on T.V :D

wtf is toonamii think having over a thousand forum post on a website is a waste of timeag3ntz3rox0x
That is a great one!!! Respect!! ROFL
imo no,
What is Time? Time is also relative, if you spend Time doing what you like then NO, simple as that.
It's the same waste if you watch a football game, go to the movies, hang out with friends. Your not accomplishing anything, but your having fun. Take your pickmohfrontline
Oh, but you are accomplishing something! You're increasing your gamerscore.
For me, no, it isn't a waste of time because I work a full time job, have a girlfriend, go out and have fun, and spend time with family and friends. For those losers who sit on the couch 24/7 playing COD4 and Halo 3 (just a generalization) , yea...it's a big waste of time. I don't think I could appreciate the rewards of my hobby if I didn't have a fullfilling and purposeful life. I would feel like the biggest piece of crap if all I did was sit home all day and game. That's pretty pathetic in my opinion. It's people like this that give gamers a negative rep. I haven't read through all the posts on this topic, but I'm sure 90% of us are responsible people who enjoy gaming as our hobby, just like any other person enjoys playing baseball, or painting, fishing, etc, etc. It's all in moderation my friends......moderation.

to be honest i think thats a false feel of achievement. i mean wow i got 50 more gamer points whoopty do. sure there ok but buying a game for the soul purpose of that fact? come on! well its not my life. have fun tho. as i said before if you love getting achievements i guess, instead of playing a game because its actually "fun & entertaining"
