1. How more more untaped potienial does the Xbox 360 have?

2. Hypothetical question. If Mircosoft deceides to use the HD DVD:

a. How powerful can thegames be compared to using DVD?

b. How would current Xbox 360 user's be able to play games that has HD DVD?

My guess is it probably has a little more untapped potential than the PS3. And my guess is that HD-DVD would only be used for movies, but I don't know.

Many say the 360's future is quite bleak. It's trying much too hard trying to squeeze out hit-after-hit to keep people from buying the rival systems. I think the 360 may exhaust its resources. And I'm not a hater, I love my 360. But I'm starting to worry about its future as a system.

1. As much as developers are willing to tap.

2. It's never going to happen so there is no point in being hypothetical. Microsoft made a commitment when they decided to go with DVD over HD-DVD and now it's too late to go against that.

I'm sticking with 360 (although mine is broken ATM) simply because all the games I want to play are either on both the PS3 and 360 or 360 exclusives.

I think I understand what you mean, but even though.. "the system" isn't trying to do anything.. its an inanimate object. The game developers however are releasing most games multiplatform for the largest amount of income for each title. So long as this is always happening the system will be fine.

I think the biggest differences are going to be in the exclusives. Maybe some day the PS3 games will catch up to their reputation on Blu-Ray discs and truly begin to bring out games doing things other systems cant. But even then, were always going to have our exclusives as well. Gears of War 2, and maybe a Mass Effect sequal.. stuff like that. For me even if those end up not looking as great as what the PS3 could potentially bring out in the future, I still want to follow these IP's.

I see you're making fun of my use of the term "system." I don't blame you... it's an old habit. By that, I meant I feared for its survival in the ongoing "console war" (which I find utterly ridiculous) BECAUSE of the things you addressed there. PS3 is looking at some pretty serious exclusives in the coming months. Everyone says the Wii is a fad, but more than that I believe that the Xbox 360 is something of a fad as well. Mind you, I'll continue playing the games I've got for my 360 long after it may or may not have died off in the new generation, but people really take this console war too seriously, and it DOES affect sales.

TaintedTimmy ... there really aren't too many holiday games coming out this year... for any system. I could name a few off, but not much. And I'm talking long-term here.

Developers are still getting used to programming sub-engines for each SPU and having them all perform certain tasks and other sutff, wheras the 360 has been out longer, and is very similar to PC coding. So, wouldn't the ps3 have more untapped potential?

1. How more more untaped potienial does the Xbox 360 have?

2. Hypothetical question. If Mircosoft deceides to use the HD DVD:

a. How powerful can thegames be compared to using DVD?

b. How would current Xbox 360 user's be able to play games that has HD DVD?

1. I don't know,

2.A I would guess the same, just they would have more storage for more levels etc, they would not

2.B hae higher resolution textures in most cases, seeing as that is a video memory limit. However, they wouldn't have to compress the games so much, and not waste the CPU speed for uncompressing. But the HD-DVD also has a 4.5mB(byte, not bit)/s read rate, and the DVD only 1.35mB/s, at least according to wikipedia, so I'm not sure if thats 100%accurate. So basically they might load quicker, and might be bigger, but just because the space is there, doesn't mean developers will bother making extra levels. And the reason I say might have quicker load times, is even though theoretically they would be quicker, with the space, developers might choose to include higher quality audio and other sutff, making it load the same amout of bytes quicker, but it will still load the same audio bit quicker, because it is transfering a 4x bigger file or however much bigger it is. The files, if uncomperssed, would lighten the load on the CPU, but would take longer to send across at the same speed as compressed, but with the increased speed, but higher amout of data to transfer, it would be unkown if it would make a difference. Another thing is you can add a file multiple times to a disk to make it load quicker. (I don't know how, but some ps3 games do this, like the ps3 version is on the disk twice, taking up 15gb instead of 7gb, making it load quicker as everything is on there twice, once again, I don't know exactly how this works, but it might be that instead of going from one side to the other, it has a quicker chance of finding the part of the disk its on. This might be like if you have a room with 40 coins, and another with 80, you would probably pick up 40 quicker in the room with 80, but this is just my guess at how it makes it load quicker if there are duplicate files on it) So a lot of the improved loading/transfer speed would be offset probably. Wow, that took a while to write.. Hope someone bothered to read it!

Why did I even bother writing up all that?
