My guess is it probably has a little more untapped potential than the PS3. And my guess is that HD-DVD would only be used for movies, but I don't know.Baurus_1
Developers are still getting used to programming sub-engines for each SPU and having them all perform certain tasks and other sutff, wheras the 360 has been out longer, and is very similar to PC coding. So, wouldn't the ps3 have more untapped potential?
1. How more more untaped potienial does the Xbox 360 have?
2. Hypothetical question. If Mircosoft deceides to use the HD DVD:
a. How powerful can thegames be compared to using DVD?
b. How would current Xbox 360 user's be able to play games that has HD DVD?
flirtywordy
1. I don't know,
2.A I would guess the same, just they would have more storage for more levels etc, they would not
2.B hae higher resolution textures in most cases, seeing as that is a video memory limit. However, they wouldn't have to compress the games so much, and not waste the CPU speed for uncompressing. But the HD-DVD also has a 4.5mB(byte, not bit)/s read rate, and the DVD only 1.35mB/s, at least according to wikipedia, so I'm not sure if thats 100%accurate. So basically they might load quicker, and might be bigger, but just because the space is there, doesn't mean developers will bother making extra levels. And the reason I say might have quicker load times, is even though theoretically they would be quicker, with the space, developers might choose to include higher quality audio and other sutff, making it load the same amout of bytes quicker, but it will still load the same audio bit quicker, because it is transfering a 4x bigger file or however much bigger it is. The files, if uncomperssed, would lighten the load on the CPU, but would take longer to send across at the same speed as compressed, but with the increased speed, but higher amout of data to transfer, it would be unkown if it would make a difference. Another thing is you can add a file multiple times to a disk to make it load quicker. (I don't know how, but some ps3 games do this, like the ps3 version is on the disk twice, taking up 15gb instead of 7gb, making it load quicker as everything is on there twice, once again, I don't know exactly how this works, but it might be that instead of going from one side to the other, it has a quicker chance of finding the part of the disk its on. This might be like if you have a room with 40 coins, and another with 80, you would probably pick up 40 quicker in the room with 80, but this is just my guess at how it makes it load quicker if there are duplicate files on it) So a lot of the improved loading/transfer speed would be offset probably. Wow, that took a while to write.. Hope someone bothered to read it!
