OK,
I'm buying a 360 when the 65nm comes out. Any idea when this will be. I think it will be around September sometime.
Anyone with any info?

I'm wondering how easy it will be to tell which systems have the 65nm chipset, and also the quieter disc drive. Will it be possible to tell for certain if an Xbox 360 has both of those improved elements before purchase?
probably not, since they are in a box. you might be able to look at the manufacture's date it was made on the box but its not going to tell you whats in the actually xbox itself.
i do think it will be this holiday season since all the system selling games are coming out i dont think microsoft wants to put out any more bad xbox's. so they will add the 65nm chip and the better heat sink and make a very reliable xbox 360. for the elite's, premiums and cores.

See I'm getting mine in October and it's a gamble for me as well, since your not going to be able to tell. And don't expect the store guys to tell you either. So it's possible that both the new chipped systems and the chipless elites will be out there. I doubt bestbuy will take the chipless ones off the shelve. It would be nice if they did but they won't help us like that.

See like I said I'm still thinking October will be the date those will come out.
Where on the box do you look to see the manufacture date?

maybe they stopped production for a little bit and let all the 95 nm chips consoles sell out so when they release the 65 nm chipped systems there will be very few of the older models left.OK,

well i just got my elite a week ago, and i can tell you for a fact. because i had 4 premiums before, it, that the elite has a much much quieter disk drive, and the system is overall quieter as well.

Yah I heard that MS replaced the disc drives...check out www.llamma.com
I'd LOVE to own a 360, but I have waited for the 65nm since last summer, so I guess a few more months will be OK.
I'm not yet blow away by the 360 games I've seen, kinda nicer graphis, but "more of the same". I'm liking ace combat, and Command and Con , also hoping MS flight simulator comes out....I can only play so many FPS.
Something to be happy about is that nobody has complained about problems with the elite. It's the regular 360's that are still being talked about.
I'm just crossing my fingers that the new chip will be there in October, as I don't want to wait any longer.
I think the whole 65nm CPU may have been a lie. Microsoft has supposedly pushed it back over and over and over. JohnWinger
It's not a lie they are planning on getting this chip installed.

i thought ms is gunna anouce it?
If you but an xbox 360 console now. Just get the extended warranty through the store, and if you console breaks early next year. The store will have to order you a new one and hopefully it will have the new 65nm chip in it. That's what I plan on doing.Tree06
I thought of doing this also. Buying a 360, if it dies then getting one with 65nm on warranty. BUT what happens is they always repair the console you bought. My friend has had his same console repaired 3 times...he just takes out the hard drive and then waits for it to return.
The 65nm s supposed to be cooler, more dependable, some say quicker, and should also be a cheaper console.
Case in point. I never thought of it like that. I might look into the protection plan at circuitcity. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=177538&catOid=-16487&c=1&cm_re=main%20marquee-_-Xbox%20360%20Elite%20is%20here!-_-Microsoft%20Xbox%20360%20Elite%20High-Definition%20gaming%20and%20entertainment%20system
With the protection plan plus you don't have to wait for repairs they give you a replacement console but if they don't have it in stock they give you a gift card with the total amount for your purchase.

well if your into RPS's then the 360 has many many comming out for it this year, and next. and not just here are some RPGs for you, but some really good quality ones at that. and i too am looking forward to playing ace combat. already beat C&C it was good. but i really love FPS./ and RPG. and the 360 has enough of both comming out. so ill be happy. :) i was thinking of getting a ps3. but not until sony starts to trully bring alot of good games out for it. not just 1 or 2 or 4, but i dont really have my hopes up. i lost faith in them during the ps2. i freaking loved the ps1 it was fantastic. but 2 is where they lost me. and 3 for me is a lost cause.
Is everyone on here on the same thinking platform as me, believing that this chip will come out in October? Or does that seem totally unlikely to many of you.
I thought about emailing Microsoft but I doubt they will even give me a hint.
you can look at the manufacturing date of the console without even opening the box. You could therefore walk in the store and check the date of all the consoles available until you find a recent one that's been manufactured after they start implementing the 65.johncraven
but on a side note, if your thinking smart you would wait till months after it launched with the smaller chip to see, if their are any new problems with it. because their might be. now the elite has a redesigned motherboard and GPU. and it doesnt have near as many problems as of now. now im just saying i would wait, the elite has been out for a few months i just picked one up, and it works fantastic.
i dont see what the big deal is.... so what, they have a different chip in them.... yayadders99
The chip is supposed to use less power, reducing risk of overheating, and allow the Xbox to run smoother and faster. Also, from what I've read, the chips will lead to cheaper Xbox consoles. The Elite is supposed to take the 399 price tag the premium currently owns.
The main reason I want one is so I don't have to worry about heat exertion after playing for multiple hours. I want Oblivion so the new chip would prove to be quite the necessity.

hell my elite runs smoother and faster than any of my previous premium 360s.

So your going to wait however long it takes then Drwdan?

Yep. It's been talked about since April 06 so I've been waiting forever. I know about the new 3 year warranty, but I don't want to play and have the thought of it breaking and having to call customer service in the back of my mind. I've waited this long so the September/October release date is sounding really good.

I totally agree with you Drwdan I don't want that thought of it breaking either. I'd like to play my games with ease and not worrying about a possible problem later.
Some of you are gonna tell me "3 year warranty Buddy"
Still I'd like to not think about having to initiate that option.
Ya all we have to do is what one of the posters on here mentioned, and thats to check the manufacture date on the box. Cause if we don't we won't be able to know if it's a new machine or not. And you know that best buy or whatever place you buy it from, will have both new and old systems.
It's funny how when I bought my Xbox those many years ago, I never thought about looking at the manufacture date. Well this time I plan on doing that!

Where the heck did you get that info? Do you have confirmation? I don't think MS would be so cheap as to simply send out new consoles and not tell you the difference between the two.
And as for my opinion on when it will come out, I'm betting on November. That's when PS3 really comes out, and I think MS will hold out to the last second (before sony releases their console in full) on a price drop with the new Xbox 360.
I would bet on MS dropping their price on the older Premiums, and keeping the newer premiums at 399, or something like that. Who knows? All I think is that it'll be mid November, and they'll give it a new name, so you can tell the difference between the, count 'em, 4 types of xbox 360s.
Looks like we will be getting the new 65nm chip set this fall...
http://news.google.ca/news?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wn&q=xbox+65nm
Codename: Falcon
And assuming MS will follow PS3 for marketshare, we will also see a bit of a price drop.
Hoping it comes out in time for Halo 3 and Ace Combat
Hopefully we'll get some new info on this tomorrow during the E3 Press Conference.
I hope MS won't leave us in the dark to much. I'll be able to tell right from the start, if they go off talking about upcoming games like Halo 3, whether or not they aim to shed any light on the subject.

I agree with you on them making sure we know which systems are the chipped ones. But they're probably going to recall all the old ones. So when we go to stores all of them will have the new chip installed.
I feel they might get rid of the core system as 4 machines sounds like too much.
