Has there been an announcement or even a hint of when the next Xbox will come out? I was thinking sometime 2012. The reason I was asking is because of the new Kinect add on was released recently ----------------------------- (which I thought would be awesome but has no cool games yet) so I figured they would try to keep it alive as long as possible to ensure they profited from that addition. -Unless they allow it to be used with the next system. What do you think it will be like? disc-based system, virtual, cartridge?? I hope it's not a disc-based system - it would reduce heat, size and power consumption, and best part ... no load times, and less lag for online gaming ( I know your gonna disagree but I really think a disc-less system would be the way to go) Also would be cheaper :)killerneub
I read somwhere that the new systems are not in the making at all yet and the current gen will run 4-5 more years without another console. That is why they are pushing kinect and playstation move so hard. The xbox 360 didnt really have any cool games at launch either my friend most consoles dont give it a year or so and the publishers will begin to do cool things with it. My wife is buying one so i have no complaints with that. I am looking forward to trying out child of eden it looked pretty tight at E3. I am sure it will be disc based we are not ready for virtual quite yet not everyone can afford that you know and cartridges would be a step backward IMO. The next gen consoles will have to be better than this gen and console are still selling for 300 bucks. I would say the next gen consoles are the most over priced consoles we have ever had and are borderline just as good as buying a PC. Just my thoughts though.
Here is an article from this site saying 2013 which is still 3 years off but i think we would have heard something at E3 by now:
Although Sony's playstation 2 is holding up remarkably well nine years on, game-console life cycles traditionally last around four to five years. However, if one of the leading US game-industry analysts is to be believed, the current crop of consoles won't be succeeded as soon as their forbearers.Although the Xbox 360 was released in 2005 and the Wii and PlayStation 3 arrived in 2006, wedbush morgan securities' Michael Pachter said that we shouldn't expect truly new consoles in 2010 or 2011. "We do not expect the 'next' generation to begin before 2013, if at all," he said. The latter part of his comment may be in reference to new technologies that may disrupt the console model, such as the onlive compuer networking revealed at this year's game developers conference."We remain convinced that the publishers will resist the introduction of any video game hardware technology that requires a refresh of software, as the publishers have as yet to capitalize on the immense investments made in being competitive in the current cycle," Pachter continued."We therefore think it is likely that the 'next' generation will begin after 2013, meaning that software sales are likely to grow by a compounded annual rate of 6-10 percent for another five years. Because R&D costs are likely to flatten out with the benefits of a learning curve, we expect earnings leverage as the publishers are able to exploit R&D investments. In brief, we think that investors have it wrong so far this cycle, and think that investment in video game publishers will bear fruit for many years."One thing Pachter does expect next year, though, is "the long-rumored high-definition Wii, which is likely to upgrade the Wii to current console technology." Last year, similar rumors circulated about a HD Wii, but those pegged the device as arriving in 2011.
The DS uses cartridges, and it works fine for them, plus they even sell music on cartridges now, (made by sandisc) kinda like buying a cd but it's just a little micro sd - like card. I know it would be possible plus cool to go back to them (no load screens, cough... cough...)killerneub
The DS is a handheld system not a home console that doesn't have nearly as good of games, graphics, mutlplayer, etc. You couldn't fit all the content from a home console game onto a small cartridge for the DS. HD > standard def. There was a reason why the big 3 ditched cartridges a long time ago. There are still loading times on games with cartridges BTW.

^This. A single 8 gb sd card can cost anywhere from $20-$40 USD. If they did that the cost of games would skyrocket. I would gladly take load times over that.
And as others have pointed out, the next gen isn't coming for a while.
I love getting a new console, It's like getting a new carkillerneub
I agree, although I dont think we'll see a new console till around 2014.
As long as it doesn't go '3D'...what a waste of time!DaveCadi agree 3d is a waste of time and a gimmick, cnt even play video games as long using it. they should focus on full virtual reality....... hopefully within the next 1 to 2 consoles we are there. even is the big 3 had to combine to get it done, that would be awesome.

Not only that i dont really think we have seen even 1 HD game on a cartridge EVER.
It'll either be a while or be Kinect compatible. My brother (a highly paid IT specialist) told me that gaming tech is starting to plateux and they're getting to a point where its getting really difficult to make new hardware good enough to justify launching a new console. I reckon it'll be a good 4 or 5 years before an announcement is made.

I would guess 2013 or later. Reason being, Gears of War 3 coming out late 2011, Epic and Microsoft wouldn't release one of the console's biggest games so close to the end of the console's life. Just a theory.
I would expect to see some hints or maybe some early stage xbox 720 at E3 2012. Maybe a relase date of fall 2014
[QUOTE="sukraj"]same hereI don't want to buy another new console for at least another 5 years.

Yeah...me neither.

The xbox and ps3 are very old to me. I for one want a new console.

They seem old to me too,, I was like 14 when the Wii and 360 were being shown at E3; That seems like forever ago
- Wow you really checked his gamerscore come one man, I've only play like 20 games and I've had 3 accounts so mine
is probably worse but that doesn't indefinitely mean I don't branch out or play games.

His gamerscore is in his sig it is kind of hard to miss
Like I said it has nothing to do with the console you guys just need to find new games or just quit playing.
Games > graphics
Kinect is the excuse why we won't see the next Xbox for a long time. Keep an eye on Nintendo, they will probably be the first to make a new console.

Yeah the wii HD it was already announced i am pretty sure i posted that below in the article i found on gamespot.com.
2015???? ROTFLMAO. Good luck with that. 2012 we will see at least one new console if not all three. Move and Kinect are going to be huge failures with the hardcore gamers. I have no desire at all to buy either as I already have a Wii I don't play. I don't play my PS3 much at all anymore.
The current systems will of coarse be around for 5 more years. Hell the PS2 is still being supported and most likely will for a long time. Unlike a lot of people, I have money and can afford a new system. Next Xbox is a day one purchase for me and I cannot wait for it to be released. Games this generation are hitting their peaks. A lot of games aren't in HD and that isn't going to change. The hardware is limited. If a game company wants 60 FPS they cannot get 720p (FPS games).
I am tired of screen tearing, crappy AI, sub-par graphics, screen pop in, and a bunch of other problems with this gen. The one thing many of you forget is that these consoles are more than just a gaming machine. With Apple TV, Google TV, and a handful of other devices doing what a next gen console can do, A new gen is needed. Sony and Microsoft want to take over the living room and them missing out on these things will catch up. I can see a Marketplace coming from both console makers that will be larger than what Apple has now. These systems don't cost a lot to integrate into a new system. The current gen is only so capable and cannot compete right now.

First it is ROFLMAO not however you spelled it.
OT:
"The current gen is only so capable and cannot compete right now." They have no one to compete with but each other google and apple are years behind in the video game market.
Like I posted below which no one is reading obviously... the new systems wont come out til like 2013 according to game reps which is why they made kinect and move.
"Move and Kinect are going to be huge failures with the hardcore gamers." Nice I wish I had a crystal ball so i could see the future! OH and I am 4 times the hardcore gamer that you are and I am getting one.
"Games this generation are hitting their peaks. A lot of games aren't in HD and that isn't going to change. The hardware is limited." Look at rage, crysis 2, gears of war 3, all of which look way better than previous games and 2 of which are going to be using a new engine besides the unreal engine that every game is being ran on now. So saying the system is at its peaks is laughable.
When the NextGen consoles come out in 2012/2013 you all will be so amazed at how great they look
and additional features they have you'll be dishing out the dough to buy them just like everyone else
- Every Generation has been around 5 yrs and technology is advancing faster and faster you can't tell me
that the big three don't have something their working on that blows this gen out of the water
Everyone thought games couldn't get any better during the Xbox, PS2, GC era and what do you know the new games were spectacular

Yeah you want a better console well be ready to fork out the dough because it will cost just as much as a PC mark my words. Think about the graphics and gameplay we already have we would be upgrading graphics cards, processors, hard drives. 1 terrabyte xbox 720 600$ i can see it now... might as well buy a damn computer. Again seriously people need to play the games and stop worrying about graphics all the time.

They had to upgrade the graphics cards, processors, and hard drives? Only the Xbox had a hard drive last gen, so it's not like it will be any different.
And you don't think gameplay got better from Xbox to Xbox360? Wow I would strongly disagree with you on that one, the AI and so much more got better.
And if you do agree that gameplay got better than I guess you could see that I'm saying it will do the same for the next console
- it's not all about the graphics

I dont see anywhere in my post where i said that xbox and xbox 360 were not different... Did you notice the difference in price? You can get HUGE xbox 360 hard drives RIGHT NOW and they do nothing but increase the cost of the console. Gameplay and graphics are both great this console i dont have any complaints and I am in no hurry to spend another 400-500 dollars on a console and crappy launch titles ( most gens they are bad). Halo reach, new vegas, fable 3, black ops, assassins creed brotherhood just this year alone. If they launched another system it would be years before we would ever see games even close to them because game publishers would have to make new graphics engines that are better than xbox 360s and work around the new systems software capabilites.
