xbox 720 ?

iv just read a post off some one saying there is going to be one on a post to do with the next gears how ever iv heard both alot of people saying it is true and it isnt true. has there been anything official released from microsoft ?

i don't believe anything has been released by microsoft. and phoenix, please enlighten us as to why the xbox 360 was indeed named with "360". also, tell us why it won't be called the 720, and what it will be called instead.

No, nothing officially has been released from Microsoft. I'm pretty sure if Microsoft officially released something, you would know.

There were two reasons why it was called the Xbox 360. The main one was because it was a second generation Xbox against a third generation PlayStation, and didn't want the idiotic masses to buy the PS3 over the Xbox 2 because of the numbers. Obviously, it worked because the 360 was very successful. Secondly, the Xbox 360, back when HD DVD wasn't dead, was meant to be a full entertainment device, giving users a 360 degree entertainment experience. To be called the Xbox 720 wouldn't make any sense at all. You can't get a 720 degree experience, and it won't help with sales any, because most gamers know what they'll buy next gen, and those who don't will probably buy whatever they feel is worth the money.

Microsoft will name the next Xbox... The Xbox4.1 ... That way when people go to the store and see it next to a PS4... they will be like "Well this one says 4.1 so it must be better..."

They are more busy trying to get all the gamers of there wiis back to the xbox 360 by bringing us Project Natal You know that thing that's gonna take away our controllers!

They should just use one of the names they had for the xbox 360/Xenon.

No dickhead would call aconsole xbox 720, most likely if they make a new xbox they could change it completely or just might go back tojust"xbox"
