It better not be that close. I have had my 360 since launch and I feel like it deserves 3-5 more years before being replaced.

2011-2012 makes 6-7 years which is plenty. same cycle as ps2/ps3. ms will definately not ditch the 360 when the next console comes out since its turning profit and doing very well.mephisto_11

It used to be plenty. But think about it. Why would we need to pay for a new system? It better be damn good and have something no one has seen before.

i think there will be alot of great stuff in the next generation of consoles. i mean its hard to imagine what else is possible and everything but i think the advancement of physics cards and disc storage possibilities can mean longer games with more amazing effects. think of playing a halo game and shooting a flood monster and it reacting to where and what it was shot at. think of explosions that can destory levels to their bones and ragg doll boddies not getting caught in embarassing camera shots. i think there is a whole level of gameing experience we have yet to see. as the gap between reality and virtual reality close some crazy things are possible. what if a game like endwar was updated by the military for new battlegrounds to help provide information on the best tactics to assault an area and its possible faults. what about a game that makes its own maps and levels. or a mmo that u can do more with a standard clan that u can actually build missions that effect the lifes of other players not involved. for the question of when the next xbox console will come out? no one really knows and i bet the manufactuers are having a rough time pin pointing the exact date either. but i do say, keep me happy and satisfied in other games and microsoft can take as long as they want. i would rather want(and would be willing to wait) for a system that pushes the curve in gameing to new levels-even if it isn't cutting edge. the Gaming revolution is hardly over and i wouldn't be overly surprised that in 35 years some group of people will be managing the world and the economy though the comfort of their home living the life of a multi-character entity with more then one job though a game. sorry for the rant its just my first post : P assassin38

and nintendo already admited they are working on wii 2, so guess whatt thats the new console coming in 2011 or even 2010 giving wii a 4-5 yr life cycle as usual

i expect wii to stay out unles nintendo puts wii bc which seams logical,

and gc as well and vc gets transfered ,

then that console will last 5 yrs and probably have ps3 360 graphics at the price of a 360 arcade , or less

since it be cheaper by that time remember all nintendos consoles launch price never went over 250

so it makes since , where as sonys and microsofts has,

so its safe to say nintendo s 7th console , willl launch and be comparable to ps4 and x720 in terms of raw graphics

and possibly having wii features as well , giving nintendo that same edge plus more slack

that is if they dont do somthing new

Microsoft really showed their true colors this gen in the sense that they dont care if they are selling faulty equipment to gamers just as long as we keep buying it.

the ps2 was launched in 2000, thats 8 years

and they are planning games for release in 09 and maybe even 2010, so 6-7 years is too small a timespan for me considering the price i had to pay to get a 360 in the first place

i think that is a very good observaion about that. i have to say that i had my snes for the longest time. i bought my 360 when microsoft raised the warranty droped the pro to 350.

I would be happy if it was still a long ways off. I don't think there needs to be a new console so quickly. Developers are going to produce more and more fantastic looking games as they learn the tech. For anyone who hasn't purchased a "next gen" console yet they won't be scared off. Now is a great time, lots of great games out already, lots more to come.

Don't know why there is this obsession with the "next thing", always looking to the future because "new" is better and completely missing out on what they already have. Besides look at the graphics comparison between Halo and Halo 2. In someplaces it's like night and day. Also look at the launch title line up we had for 360 compared with the stellar line up we have now (more so if you look at PS3). I'm not in any rush to fork out a bunch of money to repeat all that again and wait years until developers have hit their stride when they are doing that now for a system I already own.

its already begun. MS ( or bill rather) and his wife have donated pleanty to charities as well as bioengineering firms to make wheat etc that can resist most bugs etc for third world countries.

Dont forget MS has so much money they are considered a country unto themselves. They are part of G7 after all.....
