its well worth it. most of problems are with the older xboxs. alot of new xboxs have the falcon chip which is supposed to be alot more reliable. get it. you wont regret it, and even if something does happen microsoft has pretty good support.

Most of the xbox 360s will end up getting the red rings but microsoft covers all the charges. Plus, you might get lucky and have no problems at all.

I got an Xbox 360 in February of 2006. I'm still using the one I bought in February of 2006.

If it makes a difference, I keep mine laying flat (horizontal) as opposed to standing (vertical). Same thing with my PS2 from October of 2000.

How about you take care of it, keep it well ventilated, and stop worrying.

Mine RROD'ed on me two days ago. I got mine Nov. 2006 and have kept it well ventilated and everything else you're supposed to do. It was a flaw in the system, unfortunately, and I'm without for 3 weeks. Repairs are free and you get a month of XBL. It sucks, but life goes on.

To answer OP's question, I would definitely recommend you getting one. If you get a new one, you shouldn't have any problems with it. At least, the chances are much slimmer.
