:(, btw I can take these marks off by rubbing on them with a cloth, but still it doesn't make sense to me that the 360 does it to the discs, and it still leaves some damage, not all is gone.
My CoD3 disk JUST did that. It was in my 360 and i slightly turned the 360 so i could plug my ethernet cable into it and it made a loud ass noise and when i took the CD out there were scratches everywhere. :|
I JUST got it too. spent $45 at gamestop. I'm going to try to find a disk cleaner next time I go to walmart, but I doubt it'll work...Â
It seems my 360 is damaging my discs. I just got COD 3 from a friend, still sealed because he got it for free with his xbox and doesn't want it, absolutely no scratches on it obviously. I opened it up, started playing campaign for a while, and when I took the game out, it had white marks, can't really call it scratches, but they caused a disc read error next time I put it in. This must be the 360's fault as I did not move the 360, or take the game out before that. Im sure it has happened to my GeoW disc as well, but I had that game for a while so i thought it was my fault. Has this happened before to you guys? Is my 360 defective?Stealth-Gunner
As long as you didn't do anything stupid (i.e. move the thing while playing the game) then I have no idea...but I've heard it happen to others for no reason like you. Only thing I can say is hassel with MS but I dunno if it's worth it

I have a Skip Doctor, it works very well, but if you have the marks I described, try using an appropriate cloth first, one that doesnt scratch it even more.
Is there anything that can be done to help prevent this from happening? I too have had this happen with Assassin's Creed, twice now (2 different copies of the game).
I have my console laying on its side now, the first time this happened the console was standing up in the "traditional" position. The marks on that disk are worse than the second game which happened while the console was on its side.
These marks are exactly as the original poster describes, not so much scratches, but very faint white marks.
Any advice would be most appreciated. Has anyone heard of a way to prevent this, or is this just typical of Microsofts 360... (This is my third console, this first sent back for the red flashing lights. The replacement they sent me was dead on arrival... "Lucky" console #3 looks like... /sigh
My Xbox scratched my CoD4 disc so bad I couldn't play several of the multiplayer maps. Whenever any of the maps came up in MP, I got disc read errors. I took the disc out (it was practically brand new) only to see deep concentric circular scratches that could only have come from the Xbox.
I actually fixed my disc with a technique I saw at a friends house. You can buff the scratches out with just a little water (just enough to make your fingers damp). Rub your thumb in a circular motion gently over the scratches until they buff out. Next, use a lint-free cotton cloth to gently wipe away the water. What you're essentially doing is wiping off part of the thin layer of plastic that is above the actually data stored on the disc. That plastic is what scratches and obscures the disk reader lense's view, causing the error.
I have successfully fixed not only my CoD4 disc, but also a Halo 2 disc that was previously unplayable using this method.
Thanks for the reply apollo.
I actually fixed 2 Assassins Creed games in a maner very similar to what you described before I saw your post. I didn't include water though, I actually just "buffed" the white marks with cloth. A white t-shirt. Both games are fully functional now and have not given an unreadable error since.
Just don't move it when its on.
On some of the disc drives, the makers were too cheap to install the cheap rubber pads that stops the circular scratches.
Basically, when it moves, the disc hits the metal case and gets a scrath ground into it "/
Thats why i keep mine in a place it can't fall over :)

Dude I just this happen to me last night while I was playing single player!!! I am going to try your trick to see if I can fix it without having to go out and buy another disc. I got a circular scractch around my entire disc in the middle. This sucks because I'm at work right now and I want to play some live when I get home
