Do you have the play and charge kit connected to the controller??
If the battery is low the xbox will turn off but will not fully shut down until it charges the battery fully.

Yep, he's right. You probably have the play n' charge connected
anyone else have trouble shutting their xbox down? sometimes when i do, it stays on, seems like a more recent problem. ill press the button, lights turn off, but can still hear that its on. so i have to hit and hold the buttom and sometimes it turns it back on and its annoying. think it's on its way to dying or something?ncderek
Theres a big round power button on your xbox , press that ?

that nornally happens wen u have ur controller charging or something..something is connected to it that is still using power..if u cant figure out what it is then unplug the whole thing
Mine doesn't turn off when the controller is fully charged... I have come back days later to hear it still doing its thing, but the light on the play and charge cable is the usual green, telling me it's on... it turns off when I unplug the cable from the box though.macrawThis happens to me too. Not only that, but even if the battery died, and I've only had it plugged in for 20 minutes before turning it off, the light will turn green like 5 seconds after I turned it off, which is SUPPOSED to mean that it has been fully charged, but then If I use the controller I'll only get a couple of hours out of it before it dies again. And If i start charging it again as soon as I turn the console on, it also turns green meaning it isn't even charging, and I'll have to wait for it to die again before I can start charging. So for me I always have to leave the console on for it to charge which is annoying. It did actually work properly once and stayed red when I turned the console off. But only once.
its shuttting down you just have to be patient and wait you can walk away and itll still shut down its just doing some quick stuff first. very similar to when you shut down a computer its not instantly off it just does stuff. theres nothing wrong with your xbox just wait
My little Bro's xbox is having something like this. After he got it back from repairs though. sometimes you will hit the button and everything goes queit or off, but the light is still green on both power supply and console. Hit the button again and it fully shuts down. No big deal but it does it.
