Do you have automatic downloading on, and are you downloading some of the HUGE demos lately? That's the only reason I can think of.

Do you have the play and charge kit connected to the controller??

If the battery is low the xbox will turn off but will not fully shut down until it charges the battery fully.

Yep, I have to agree with that also. Or, you can just manually turn it off by pulling the plug.

Well the only suggestions i have are

1) You have Auto Downloads Switched on and your downloading somthing

2) Your controller is charging

3) Contact Xbox support ?

^ why do you unplug the play and charge kit? it will simply lessen the time you are tethered to your 360.

You know that the 360 automatically turns off when the controller is fully charged, right?

Mine doesn't turn off when the controller is fully charged... I have come back days later to hear it still doing its thing, but the light on the play and charge cable is the usual green, telling me it's on... it turns off when I unplug the cable from the box though.

This happens to me too. Not only that, but even if the battery died, and I've only had it plugged in for 20 minutes before turning it off, the light will turn green like 5 seconds after I turned it off, which is SUPPOSED to mean that it has been fully charged, but then If I use the controller I'll only get a couple of hours out of it before it dies again. And If i start charging it again as soon as I turn the console on, it also turns green meaning it isn't even charging, and I'll have to wait for it to die again before I can start charging. So for me I always have to leave the console on for it to charge which is annoying. It did actually work properly once and stayed red when I turned the console off. But only once.

its shuttting down you just have to be patient and wait you can walk away and itll still shut down its just doing some quick stuff first. very similar to when you shut down a computer its not instantly off it just does stuff. theres nothing wrong with your xbox just wait

My little Bro's xbox is having something like this. After he got it back from repairs though. sometimes you will hit the button and everything goes queit or off, but the light is still green on both power supply and console. Hit the button again and it fully shuts down. No big deal but it does it.

I had the same problem, and always wondered until now. It was the controller hooked up to the usb, as soon as I disconnected it and tried shutting down, it worked perfectly. Its a neat little feature for charging your different peripherals, however it would be nice if there was an option to completely shut down anyways. Cause leaving it running in the background 24/7. In my mind, a complete waste of energy...
