I made the stupid mistake of setting my account to Hong Kong region, as I lived in China so I thought that I'd select the closest spot I could. After discovering LIVE offered little to no service there, I made another account purely for downloading DLC, demoes and the like, set to US region. Now that I'm moving to the US I want to get Gold membership, but paying by credit card means I have to pay in HKD, which means I have to pay the extra to change currency. So my question is can I buy the cards in the states or off Amazon for XBOX live gold or microsoft points and still have them used on my Hong Kong account?

PrePaid cards are region locked but you can get region free ones. I have seen them on amazon, ebay and a few websites in the UK. They are usually cheaper than the prepaid cards too if you get them online. If using Ebay though, only use a trusted power seller as there a lot of scams on there selling Xbox Live subscriptions

the microsoft point card are region specific but the xbox live cards are rregion free (although i think the twelve month starter pack is region specific because it is bundled with 200 microsoft points)

not sure if this site is still up but it sheds a bit of light on the topic:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When people or a person says "Xbox Live Subscription" it means a subscription to Xbox Live like a 3 month gold card, 6, or 12 month cards. Now some people think subscription is Microsoft points, like if you ring Microsoft like I did and asked do subscription codes work on other accounts made in other countries, obvisously Microsoft Points are pointless if you have an American account and you Purchase Microsoft Points in Australia, the point is Microsoft Points can be handled by creating an Aussie Account and buying the stuff you want for your American account on that EG. If I wanted to download game content you can just use your silver Aussie Account and purchase the content on a created account on which the points are made for and do that. Now with Xbox Live Subscriptions, as Microsoft said LOL or I should say as 5 representitives told me any xbox live gold subscriptions works in any country but Microsoft points do not, if you purchased a Starter Kit the Subscription would work but not the other included content.
