xbox live disconnects

when im playing games xbox live randomly disconnects

i connect through shared internet connection with my computer which connects to my router wirelessly

it doesnt disconnect from the internet as it happens when im playing FFXI and i can still play that after the disconnection, but it just randomly disonnects every 5-30 mins whilst im playing any game. i only got my xbox 360 2 weeks ago(its elite) and for the first week this never happend, but started happening resently. i did try looking on the xbox site but i couldnt find anything there

ohh yea all the settings are automatic and im using a crossover cable if that helps.

any ideas?

You know what, I had this very same problem when I used a wired connection to my wireless router. I was so sick of it disconnecting that I took it back and bought a wired one instead and have not had a problem since. I never did figure out why it was doing that.-ZeRoHouR-

Same here. Although i did get another wireless router and havent had the problem again. I now have a PS3, 2 360s, Laptop connected wirlessly, and a Desktop useing the same router and i have no issues like i did when it was just my 360 and laptop. It could be the brand of router you use.

i thought the firmware upgraded automatically through xbox live, whats the current firmware? im on 2.0xxxxx

I believe he means the firmware of the router.

The same thing has been happening to me for a few weeks now. Not only that, but now I've had the problem that when I go to sign into Xbox Live, it tells me that my profile can't be signed in online. Then it prompts me to select either "OK" or "Test Connection". The connection test doesn't work, so then I have to plug the ethernet cord directly into the modem instead of the router, and everything works fine... unless you count me still getting randomly disconnected from Xbox Live.

I'm just going to break down and buy a new router, I think. It is an old Linksys B router anyway.

gah well im not buying the wireless adapter purely on principle massive rip off. i guess ill just get a 20M ethernet cable and and trail it down the stairs, it'll cost me 1/20 the price of the adapter.
