Well pretty much you can play online with other people with the gold, while silver can't play anyonline games.

select silver when you get XBL, you will get a month for free, if you like it, then buy XBL Gold (:

You need gold to play with people online. That's reason enough.

silver is free... u get a free downloading service which includes trailers, demoes, themes.... and the gold adds the multiplayer option in almost every game i cna thing of which means u can play with other people all over the world which is pretty cool.
