I have an old xbox 360 live account thats inactive now.

I am buying an xbox 360 today and wanted to ask if I can use the 1 month free that comes with it and use my old xbox live acount on it or do I need to buy an xbox live card for that?

I believe you can but I am not sure how with the NXE. If you don't have NXE installed then just recover the account you want.

No, you can't. The three trials that come with each 360 can only be used to make a new account.

you can use the old account jut have to use free trial on it. no probs as i have done it. tjust have to think of the old account as an account that has recently ran out of credit and you want to re-top it up :) simple right?
