xbox live horror story (worst case scenario)

It's November of 05. I leave a store with an Xbox. Couldn't be happier. Didn't have XboxLive, but that didn't bother me too much. I took solace knowing I would have lots of gamer points for when I finally got it. Fastforward to 45 mins. ago. Finally I got XboxLive. My profile's name was already taken. No big deal. I knew I could somehow fix it. Microsoft sends me a brief email describing what to do. Not very detailed, but whatever. So I try changing the name on my profile to be able to migrate it online. Biggest mistake ever. I have lost everything. Thousands of hours. 17,000+ gamerpoints. And the will to live. I wouldn't be so upset if it wasn't for that poorly written email microsoft sent me. I read it even now and I'm still not sure wtf happened. I can't help but feel raped.

So if anyone has had a similar situation and can offer any advice to us noobs, please share. If you've had a similar experience, please indulge us.

Maybe it was punishment for renting Avatar and getting those cheap 1,000 gamer points? Just messing with ya. Unless you really did that then SHAMESHAME!

I didnt create a new one. i simply edited the name. and the email said to do all this quickly in case someone else tried taking my already existing profile name. And now i have 2 live accounts but my original pro is gone.

the only games i had that i played with easy achievements was TMNT and Transformers, but i wanted to play them. I'm really pissed cause I just got 100% in GTA4 not even 2 days ago.

First off i read it all, and more than once. Believing microsoft might know more about something than i do and putting my faith in them isn't stupidity. Next time I will ignore MS and let problems exist for the fear of losing critical info.

HELLO! I lost all my saved games. 3 years of playing time. the points reflected that. now if i want to play oblivion, i have to start all over. 230 hours. i didnt do anythin hastily. and i read fine. thanks for your help, o wait, nvm.

not just gamerscore. EVERYTHING. 230+ hours of oblivion. 100% Gta4. My xbox now is like it was when i first bought it, except now i have xboxlive.
