You're going to have to find out through the school.

In my experience college dorms have pretty good internet... I was in upstate ny and the internet was even better than my house's and live worked like a charm.

All schools allow access to services such as Xbox Live. This is because Xbox Live usually can't be manipulated to do illegal things. If your school, for some reason, doesn't allow it, then just talk to the dean, super intendent, or someone very powerful.

It really depends on the school. I go to Dickinson College, and for my first year (2005-2006) Live was basically unplayable due to the school's horrible network and network restrictions all but blocking Xbox Live.

Last year Live ran better, but my cable modem at home still provided a better connection. As for this coming year, the school's already upped their bandwidth, so I'm hoping it'll be better yet.

The moral of the story is, you'll find out how well it works during the first week of school. If at first it sucks, have faith your IT department will improve the internet enough to relieve the problem.

I'm in college, I can do Xbox Live simply... but some colleges block it.

When I was living in a dorm at LSU, we could hook it up through the network ethernet cable but i think we could only play people that did the same. None of us had xbox live. That was back when Halo 2 came out. Im pretty sure thats how Michigan would work unless you buy xbox live.

Schools with relatively new, advanced internet connections allow their students to use xbox live. You're going to michigan, so you should have no problem. I love using xbox live at school, because my connection at home makes things near unplayable

I think most schools would have access to good internet nowadays, considering how much research students doon the internet.
