So I have the first free month of Xbox Live and I guess I'll try out GTA Online (the only game I have that supports XL)

I want to be able to use the microphone but I don't have that gray thing that I see put on the bottom. Do I need it? What does it do? Why doesn't it come with the Xbox?

Edit:

I have the microphone that comes with the system.

It's not wireless, it's wired.

I can plug it into the buttom, but it doesn't really fit correctly because it comes out easily.

How do you mean? Did you get a cheaper model because every pro (premium) and elite has the wired mic, the end you put in the gray thing on the bottem of your controller. Or maybe the new 360's come with a wireless mic but then you stil need to put something on that aswell (atleast I think).

It just depends on the type of headset you have. The one i have doesn't have the plug-in you see above, and it works fine.

That controls volume/mute. My headset just has the controls in the middle of the cord.

I didn't get anything like that for my microphone. At the end of mine it is a plug similar to normal headphone plug-ins but smaller.
