Hey,

I've just finished setting up my whole network completely wirelessly and use the internet via wireless usb.

the problem is I can not get the xbox to connect to Live.

I'm thinking of just connecting a straight ethernet cable directly to one of the ports on my wireless router.

Should I have gotten a wireless modem/router instead?

Now that I think of it that might do the trick.

I failed networking school so has any one had any success with mobile broadband?

Ethernet connections will always be much more stable and secure over wireless onces, plus you dont have to pay $100 for a 20$ wifi adapter. if you have ports on the back of your wireless AP, then it is a wireless router more than likely.
