70% of gamers use party chat, and now xbox live is dead. Xbox live back in the xbox 1 days was so fun. Everyone was talking trash, everyone was communicating in games, everyone was partying, telling jokes, beatboxing, rap battling, singing, role playing, everything. i remember one time back in my halo 2 big team battle days, my whole team had the bomb and we were hiding near the enemy base and one guy was yelling "i gota da bomb baby! i got da bomb baby!" over and over and my whole team was crouching up and down to it, man... everyone knows that those were the days. but now if i join a matchmaking lobby in any game at all you wont hear anything, the most you will hear is one guy talking. I know 60% of you didnt play xbox live on the original xbox, so i dont really care if you decide to try to walk all over my post because u wouldnt know better.

so true. xbox live used to be a much more social experience. COD3 is the game I look back on from the good ole days before party chat. "Anyone want to spit roast this dead cow lying over here?"

Ruined it? More like made it 100x better. It's nice playing COD with friends, without hearing all of the "other stuff" that is said. Other stuff mostly being little kids, non-stop swearing, and racist comments.

I mute everyone at the start of games (unless teamwork is a big factor in the game I'm playing) so I've noticed zero difference.

I agree. I remember the good ol days of Rainbow Six, Halo 2, Counter-Strike, Battlefront 2. People were constantly talking among themselves having a good time, being more tactical and social with team members. The whole service is a joke now imo.

I was actually thinking about this the other day.....I agree with what you're saying. It doesn't have the same feel anymore.

Exactly!

I played MW2 yesterday for the first time in months ... plugged in my headset and took it out right after my first full game. Full of 12 year olds (and even some adults) who swear constantly and smacktalk. I could understand a little bit of intense competition, but that was just ridiculous.

Party chat saved Xbox Live -- the online community is no longer what it used to be. Now I can just talk to friends.

Meh, at most I play games involving 4 people, usually only 2. When they drop in, I ask if they've got a mic. If I get no reply I invite them to a party. If I don't like them, I kick them and that's that. And btw, in my opinion beatboxing and singing and rap battling is annoying.

Xbox Party Chat is awesome for single player games, but when playing cod or another similar type game no one is in game chat. I think they should make all multiplayer games like mw2 where some game modes must be in game chat.

It's really a no-win situation as I see it. Either you stay in Party Chat and forfeit communication with like-minded players (yeah, right) or you play open mic and listen to the slimy gunk that is the XBL community.

It's not just parties that have made the player base less active, though. There are a lot of folks like myself who don't bother with mics at all because the community is trash. I auto-mute everyone at all times. So if you look at it that way, the community basically hurt itself. If everyone was'nt so friggin hostile and had not built up such a terrible reputation, then you would see more players talking.

Far from ruined it. Talking trash is rarely a good thing, and the ability to stay in a party with your friends improves communication while playing the same game. There are private matches for a reason. If you want too have competitive matches where constant communication actually matters, try putting together some private matches. Most people don't care enough about random public matches to be strategizing the whole time. And that's the way it should be. Gaming is meant to be fun. People have more fun while chatting with their friends.

I have played on live since day one of the original xbox. That said, I find the majority of players on live annoying either because they act like there 5 or they think there a god. Yeah, I love party chat where you can actually talk to honest to goodness human beings who's sole purpose isn't to see how many people they can offend. I actually took a break from live at one point because I couldn't believe how low the human intellect had gotten to.

I remember gears of war used to be awesome when there was no party chat, everybody would say "rush snipes" or "rush boomshot". Now when i play gears everybody just wanders around by themselves and gets killed, and if you are matched up against a party of five your screwed. When i put a team together out of friends i ALWAYS win, when i play by myself i always lose because there is no communication.

What they should do is have part chat allowed in singleplayer games, but not when you are playing multiplayer

So you're upset because you can talk to friends instead of hearing constant trash talk and racist slurs from strangers?

This. I love being able to play what I want and still be able to talk to my friends without them being in the same game. You people act as if party chat killed the side chatter and strategy in some games, it's still there, the only difference being that undesirables are filtered out. Party chat also makes communicating with your friends much better cause some games like Halo and Cod have horrible voice quality.

I like Xbox Live Party Chats, cause there's times where I don't feel like talking to random people and I just want to talk to my friends.

frankly every game i played was full of people without mics anyway, and i almost always mute the whole lobby when i join a game that does have people with mics since pretty much everyone of them is either a little kid being extremely annoying, racists, jackasses blasting music into the mic, mouth breathers, and finally those that talk constantly to other people in their house and give all their teammates the pleasure of hearing every pointless word

I see where you are coming from OP, but I do enjoy only being able to hear my friends and not deal with idiots. The "beatboxing, rap battling, and singing" is the most annoying thing in the world.

Where are you getting these statistics?... Anyway, I'm glad that they added the party chat for two reasons:

1.My cousins (who are younger than 10) play online, and I want to be able to speak with them during the game, yet I don't want them to hear the filth that is filled on xbox live.

2. CoD 4 and CoD B.O. have glitchy servers that kick random people out of the party when you start to search for games. It's nice to still be able to hear(and speak to) the person that got kicked out of the group, to let him/her know that the group is backing out and re-inviting them.

So true, i just got an X-box 360/Live recently. And the Chat is by far one of my favorite features, because simply put...you don't have to listen to all the crap or take time to mute everyone that is going to annoy you or give you a headache.

And as for the Ruining it by taking all of the bickering, rap battles, and people playing their obnoxious music to where everyone whom isn't in a party can hear it. I wasn't here before, but what you described to be "The Past"....definitely sounds like what goes on today. Why just today i heard so much trash talk, and although i have yet to hear a rap battle...i have heard many of the things you spoke of. So as for ruining all of that.....i'm gonna have to disagree. But what do i know right? I'm a noob of X-Box 360.

you and i are very, very different people.
me (and I guess 70% of people) would rather have normal conversations with our friends over xbox live while playing games then have to bear listening to the things you just described.
but that's why it's there CHOICE! you can choose to talk to everyone, or just the people in your party. thank god.

I will say this party chat has made xblive very different if your a solo gamer looking for matches. I played xbox live on the original xbox and trash talk was fun. It consisted of people really im better then you so on so forth good trash talk. Now its so many 14 -24 year old (im 23) with racist and derogatory remakes in trash talk its unreal. To me the best year of xblive was 2006 to 2007.
