Xbox Live Prepaid Card Help

Hey everyone, I just wanted to know if the Xbox Live Subscription Prepaid Cards are region protected. So, if I buy a 12 month Xbox Live Card in the US or the UK will it work in Canada?

Not sure about the 360, but before I owned the 360 I purchased a three month U.S code off Ebay for the original Xbox just so I could check out Halo 2 online, which worked fine in the U.K..
