You mean keeping something very cheap for longer then any other field of entertainment?
Yeah I guess so
Also this news is months old so yeah, we know

Thanks ESPN,thanks.
Flamecommando
This. I'm never going to use ESPN. YAAAY!
Wow... You're right. ESPN is part of the problem. I honestly hadn't thought of it that way. I now have another reason to dislike ESPN. Thanks.
if they increase the price they should make most of the features free instead of having to spend alot of MP on stuff
You've got a point, I actually just bought a 1 year XBL for $39.99, I mean if you're really worried about the $10 increase than you can still get it now for $39.99, you can also get 2 years for $85, there is whole bunch of deals on the internet and on XBL dashboard.Considering it was announced months ago, no, it's not a surprise at all.
As for being classic MS. Considering they haven't touched the fee in 8 years while adding stuff throughout.... is an extra $10 per year unreasonable?
VoodooHak
Did they also say why they increase the price?
Cause when i play street fighter 1 on 1 with a guy from the united states or australia i get major delay.
But well its probaly just a increase of price by knowing people will buy it anyway, nothing new for microsoft.
If only the PS3 had a xbox controller i would move on...
I am actually shocked. They already have a lot of people moaning about the price already, why raise it?h3LL_ZinKy69
Those moaners are probably still paying so why should MS listen to them? If the complainers want to make an impact, they should cancel their accounts or let their subscriptions run out. That's the only way.

i dont think so... its only $10 that aint much i hope they put that extra $10 to use though
My guess is a good deal will now be $45 to $50. I have had it since it's inception, so now I have paid M$ about $400 for the ability to play online. It does add up.
I'm ditching my 360, when my live membership runs out in 2 months. I'm going to look around for a good black friday deal on a PS3. I've just grown tired of hearing that we are getting all of this great content for our money. I checked out the PS3 last week, and I thought PSN was great. I liked the store, and the new netflix app looks as good, if not better than the 360's, and you don't need the disc anymore. I also thought that the user interface was better on the PS3 than on 360. No adds all over.
I will miss my 360, but between the live increase, (I can afford the $10 more, but after checking out PSN, I can't see paying $20 per year for live) and lack of good exclusives coming out, it is time to say goodbye M$.
[QUOTE="craigalan23"]It is almost Black Friday so I'm not worried. I will just get a few of them so the price increase qwont affect me.BLAS1AN
what are the prices usually during black friday and after? I used to find deals online for $30 and now they seem to be around $40
Around $30 but since the increase it might be higher but hopefully it will only be $30.[QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]man it sure is cOLD in here, you're 3 months late to the party kid.GameGuy642003

Buy a couple of the 12-month cards off eBay and you're golden. They're going for 40-45 so you'll save a nice chunk there.[QUOTE="GameGuy642003"][QUOTE="AiurProtoss"]man it sure is cOLD in here, you're 3 months late to the party kid.Elann2008

My xbox live expires on Jan. 10 so I renewed mine till 2012 at the low price of $39, I think from the dashboard there is an offer to renew now and save, thats how I did mine :) BTW even $60 isn't that bad for a years worth of entertainment, and believe me I use it :P

You're kidding right?
They haven't raised the price of Live in almost a decade, they're the ONLY (as in by themselves) form of entertainment that has not
They are the only ones that charge to play online, so your theory is flawed. :o

They're the only business in entertainment to not have an increase in the last decade

Can you explain what entertainment they are providing?
I already pay a monthly fee for netlix.
As far as I know, nobody pays for Facebook, Twitter, Last F.M., etc...
I guess if you consider looking at advertising entertainment, then you might have a valid point, because there is plenty of that on the xbox live dashboard.

You pay for crap that should be optional. Is it entertaining because it has X chat? Paying for that extra stuff should be optional (like PS+ has it). XBL is not worth $50 (soon to be $60).Considering it was announced months ago, no, it's not a surprise at all.
As for being classic MS. Considering they haven't touched the fee in 8 years while adding stuff throughout.... is an extra $10 per year unreasonable?

Wow I was unaware of this ... and what exactly is this "stuff that they added throughout"? Yes that is a sincere question.
So far the only thing I would've liked to see out of XBL, dedicated servers for all major exclusive online titles, still hasn't happened. Not even for Reach. Hell, Resistance has offered lag-free online gaming with 40-60 players since the PS3's launch for free with PSN (not trying to start a system-wars debate, I'm just making a point for comparison). I still don't know what the hell I will be paying for exactly when I do get a Live account. All I know is that I wanna play Reach online with my friends and MS wants me to fork over som arbitrary annual fee for a service they don't even technically provide.
Again, I'm not trolling here - I'm just stating my displeasure with MS's greedy business practices.
Xbox Live is pretty affordable and I think they could actually charge much more and people would pay for it.
DeViLzzz
Just because it's relatively affordable does NOT meant they should charge for it all. Sony and Nintendo still offer online gaming for free, and in some cases (MAG, Resistance series), Sony offers a higher quality online gaming service for free.
MS still use peer-to-peer gaming for all of their online games, and we're all already paying for that by having a high-speed internet service. MS doesn't provide any service to us at all with a Gold account, they simply block you from playing online unless you fork over whatever they request. They essentially force you to give up 1-3 games a year (which is what many of us would likely spend that $60 on if it wasn't for Live) in order to play online, and they don't even actually provide a service for that money either!
Come on, $10 isn't that much of an increase. It's only 20 cents a week extra...
Doctor_Chris
I don't even care. It's an extra $10 bucks that I would gladly pay $100 a year for. It's consumer surplus with me. Ghost_702Again, affordable =/= worth the price. For the services XBL provides that I actually use and don't ALREADY pay for (which is nothing - they don't have dedicated servers and I already pay for high-speed internet service which is all I need to game online), I pay $60 per year. How is that fair? And Ghost, since you know a little about economics (based on the fact that you understand the concept of consumer surplus), explain to me what marginal services / benefits XBL provides that is worth $100/year to you and that you couldn't get from a substitute (such as free online gaming on a PC, PS3, or Wii)?

I agree that it is affordable, but why are we paying for it at all. They aren't really giving you anything that you can't get for free elsewhere. I have had live since it started on the original Xbox, and that means that I have paid M$ about $400 for it. It adds up. Sony just updated their netflix app for free. You can do twitter, youtube, and such also on Sony's machine for free. At least with their PSN+, you are getting content for your money. It really amazes me that people actually defend M$ on the subject. I for one am looking to get a PS3 for the holidays, and am going to do away with my Xbox all together. Again, I can afford live, but I have decided not to support a company that is just taking my money, and giving me nothing in return.
The price increase has got to be for ESPN3. I have ESPN 3 on cable, so I really don't need it on my xbox. I really don't want to watch any of the content that they have. They should at least give you the option wether or not you want the content.
Here is a pretty good article on how ESPN works, and how they are the most expensive channel on cable. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ESPN-Charges-Broadband-Firms-ibd-345214765.html?x=0&.v=1

I agree. I have also been a Live subscriber since the beginning. Not anymore. I had two Live accounts, i just cancled one, and the second one runs out in 6 months. I will not be renewing. I dont want facebook, espn, pandora, etc....i will never use those features. I can give up Halo easily and just stick with COD:BO and Killzone 3 for my online gaming fix with PSN, and still stream my netflix movies and shows, and access premium HD movies and contents from PSN store without having to subscribe to a service like Live.Im not trying to turn this into a systems war type thing, im just growing a bit dissatisfied with MS after all these years. I had a lot of fun with Live, but latley its just all come to a head and i realise that maybe Live is not actually worth what i have been paying....
