Xbox live question. Help please!

I'm thinking of getting XBl but i don't have a computer in my room.SO i have a few questions on how to get it

1: will a modem by itself be enough for online play?If so how much is 1?

2: how much is a ethernet cable?

3: Is bellsouth a high speed internet service?

4: how much is a headset to talk with?

5: Does the modem have to be connected to a computer in order to have high speed internet?
