Really it should

After they decided to skip the spring update I am starting to think it should be.
What they hell are we even paying for at this point?
i don't mind paying for live.. i hate that they charge us for all th other crap too (download content, pictures, etc)
that's just greedy.. it should be one or the other, not both. (hence i never buy any)
No, I want to pay more for it.Ryo_Kensen
lol....I agree, i think it should be like 200 bucks a year....then only the real dedicated people would be on!

My thoughts exactly. After that rumoured list for the Spring '08 Update, I was really anticipating some minor (yet effective) updates to the service. A horrible idea to skip it, to say the least. Even a few basic things, like group chat or disabling ads would have been welcomed.
I think after my subscription runs out, in May 09, I'm done (unless something seriously changes my mind..).

How do you know that they, "skipped" it. Do you have any proof?[QUOTE="Aaron89"][QUOTE="limpbizkit818"]After they decided to skip the spring update I am starting to think it should be.

How do you know that they, "skipped" it. Do you have any proof? It was in an interview with the General Manager (?) of Xbox Live, who confirmed the lack of a spring update. This wasn't the exact article, but a quick Google search brought almost the same info.
EDIT: A little slow - you found it already. :P And yes, that's bullocks.
As long as i have to pay for something that doesn't bring me any profit at all, i soil on it.
Xbox gold = no profit to me. I buy the f..king game for 65$ with the taxes and i should still pay for PLAYING IT ???
Every1 is so into money that the world of economy turned to BS. Let's pay taxes because we're living !!!
1500$ a month, as a start !!
Have fun living !
Xbox LIVE being free would be like free healthcare,
it would be very low quality.

I don't think thats a very good analogy. We have free healthcare in the UK, and its good compared to healthcare in the USA where you pay.
Although it would suck if it was free. Less of an incentive for microsoft to update.

You haven't been to an NHS clinic or hospital recently, have you?
Wow, seriosuly Xbox live breaks down to like 4$ a month. If you can't afford that then you shouldn't be on Xbox live anyway. Plus if it was free it would suck ass like the PSN. Silentwarrior27
lol, i laugh at people like you, for not understanding the point of this thread. Anyways, Ill explain.
The TC DID NOT say anything about how he cant afford $50 anually for XBL.
He is asking WHY we have to pay for XBL, P2P, no update etc. when Steam offers more and better for free.
it sahould be free other sites and game services r free and they r great to have. like what other peoplesaid steam. thats i good service it updates regularly it has a instand message way. if ur paying 50 a year then i shouldn't have to buy things on market place. iam2green
Microsoft doesn't make the stuff on the marketplace.
The fact that we host the games ourselves makes paying for live seem unfair. Do I pay? Yes.
Only so my dad and I can get 2-3 games a month cross country. If it was free great but if that's the price I pay to share some fun with a loved one so be it. Also BS'ing with my dad for half an hour over live instead of long distance kinda pays for itself in a way. I know there's skype. Let me rationalize.

Actually Free health care is not that bad, atleast ive never had a problem with it.
But back to the topic, I disagree with Xbox Live being free. Nothing else in this world is free(Except PSN but it aint very good) So why should Xbox Live be free?
[QUOTE="def_mode"][QUOTE="TaintedSaint666"]If they made it free, then you'd whine about the poor service. If you hate it soooo much, don't pay for it.APOLLOCJD
Yet Steam offers it for free and is better than XBL.
not all steams servers are dedcated though
obviously, steam gives the option for people who wants to host their own server.
Live is fine the way it is. I agree that if it were free then it would be horrible. It is not that much, suck it up or don't play online.
I actually prefer the PS3's PC-style server browser interface over the 360's matchmaking service for most games. Of course I'm an old-school PC gamer.
Also, PS3 games have dedicated servers for most games, which means less lag than the 360's peer hosting - that can cause a lot of frustration when the host disconnects and everybody's booted.
Yeah, and pop music should be raped and buried alive, gas should be 1 dollar a gallon, and Sony should admit that without Nintendo the PS3 wouldn't exist. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world.

I'm in the same boat, ahh the old quake servers. anyway, I dont mind a little match making here and there.
[QUOTE="TraXxX"]No, it shouldn't be, trust me. If MS makes Live free then it will be a $h!**y as PSN.def_mode
ahh so it turns out the only reason XBL is better than PSN is because we pay for it. lame if u ask me.
Wow you missed the point of that one. If XBL is free then it is less of an incentive for them to update and fix issues. The numbers don't lie either 17,000 live items and only 600 ps3 store items. When we pay the 4 dollars a month it basically makes it more of an incentive to go out and get better studio support and introduce new features into the console. I have not problem paying the $4 a month to know i am going to be getting the quality support I want. Also I own a ps3 and i have played on their service it is much worse. So all in all I am with the better of the services.
