(update, release date is April 5, 2016)

Well this is good news for those following the game, it appears we will soon find out when it will release. Gamespot just posted the following! :

Upcoming time-bending Xbox One exclusive action game Quantum Break will be one of the titles featured in Microsoft's Gamescom briefing on Tuesday. And now the company has teased that it may announce the 2016 game's official release date during the show.

Asked by a fan on Twitter if Microsoft will announce a "firm" release date for Quantum Break during the show, Spencer said, "You'll see on Tuesday. I think you'll be happy."

Quantum Break, in development at Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment, was originally scheduled to launch in 2015. But in April, Microsoft announced that it was shifting the game to 2016.

Microsoft head of publishing Shannon Loftis said at the time that the company already has the "strongest games lineup in Xbox history" for this year with games like Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fable Legends, Forza Motorsport 6, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

“With so many games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP," Loftis explained at the time.

Quantum Break is not just a game alone, as it will be accompanied by a live-action TV show. This remains in development despite the closure of Xbox Entertainment Studios last year.

Remedy has previously described Quantum Break as the "ultimate Remedy game." The studio also created the Max Payne and Alan Wake franchises.

Microsoft's Gamescom briefing is slated for August 5, starting at 7 AM PDT / 10 AM EDT.

This is good, I just want this game to be ready when it is released. This should not be rushed out, and hopefully, given the delays, it will live up to the other games Remedy have made (I am a huge fan of Alan Wake). Can not wait to play this, but I want it done right.

@Garfield360UK: Absolutely, I do not want to see them tumble out the gate with this one, it's one of my most anticipated games on the system.

I'm also a big Alan Wake fan, but what really sold me on QB was a 20 min gameplay clip I saw last year......game looks fresh and unique, looking forward to it.

So, this is an announcement to announce another announcement of a release date?

Whatever date is announced, I won't believe it until Quantum Break is in my hands. In part because of the delays of QB already and especially of Remedy's Alan Wake which was announced before the Xbox 360 released in 2005 and after delays finally showed up in 2010 which I waited year after year after year for. Alan Wake was one of the main reasons I bought an Xbox 360 back in 2005 with a tiny 20GB HDD (the biggest HDD available back then). I was so pumped for Alan Wake as I was a massive Max Payne fan since Remedy's Max Payne released on PC in 2001 and later ported to consoles that year.

I would love for QB to release in 2016 though and I will definitely be buying QB (although I bought the Xbone in 2013 in hopes QB was going to release in 2014 or 2015), but I just won't get amped and super excited to ride up on an emotional roller-coaster again. A little disappointed the release date is apparently set according to the title, but still I am leaving the thread with no release date. It seems like there will be another thread when a new release date is finally announced.

QB's gameplay looks to be a return to Max Payne 1/2 type gameplay with some Alan Wakeisms (and a bit of a Resistance in terms of the time bubble). Pretty standard for Remedy. All their games over the last 15 years have been 3rd person with shooting elements, a noir feel, and have some time manipulation of sorts which I enjoy. It's not really new material, but they seem to shake it up enough to bring me back. Max Payne felt new and fresh though when it showed up in 2001 (the bullet time/time slow gimmick was inspired by the movie 'The Matrix' which they used and modified again in Alan Wake and now the upcoming Quantum Break).

---

EDIT: This post was written prior to the thread title change and actual date being set.

@SolidTy: hehe I certainly don't blame you for your over-cautious approach, considering the "emotional rollercoaster" you describe. My experience with Alan Wake did not involve something like that, because it was pretty much my first experience with this dev. It was a game I remember looking forward to but not one that I was actively following from the moment it was announced. I was busy with other games but AW looked like something that I would enjoy a lot and got it on release, and loved it.

Here there is obviously some interpretation of Mr Spencer's response, but I just don't see what else it could be other than them announcing the release date. Is it possible that even after they announce a firm release date on Tuesday that in the future, the game could get delayed? Sure, anything is possible....but what can I say, in this situation, the excitement for this game is simply getting the best of me, and I'm stoked to find out on Tuesday. Perhaps if I am burned now, as you were with AW, I may be more cautious with future releases from this dev.

Either way, I'll definitely update this thread on Tuesday when the announcement is made.

@Alucard_Prime: I'll check out the updated thread when there is a real announcement made, but I won't be marking my calendar anymore, lol.

Hopefully it comes out early 2016, but I'm doubtful.

I'm hoping that is gets a march-april release.

I'm also hoping for a remaster or something with Alan Wake and AN too. Bundled together.

I have the limited edition for 360, don't know what else they could add. Might just be a nice port of both games in XB1 form, which would be fun with me.

@Alucard_Prime:Yeah games can get delayed even after a solid release date has been set (Project Cars comes to mind where it got pushed back twice after having a day set for release). However, as long as the game works and it is to the same Remedy standard the other games before have been, I am happy.

As much as I'm looking forward to Quantum Break and think it has an interesting premise, what I really wanted was another Alan Wake game. But the night is still young as they say, I do believe we will see another Alan Wake this generation.

@BattleSpectre: I'd love to see another Alan Wake too, but I gotta say I was floored by the QB footage yesterday.......the story looks good, and I'm still curious how they will integrate the show with the game experience, that has yet to be seen.

@Alucard_Prime: I have a question about the show slash gameplay experience, is this something that comes with the game? Are we forced to watch the show in order to experience the full story, or is this an optional choice? I don't quite understand how it's all going to work.

@BattleSpectre: Well, the game's creator Sam Lake did an interview recently with Destructoid, here is a quote regarding the show :

"You first play through an act of the game, Lake says. "It culminates in a special scene that is the junction moment, where you make a choice," which opens up an episode of the show "based on the choice you make." So you get roughly 22 minutes of programming tailored to your decisions. And all of Quantum Break is "shaped by your choices."
