Hey everyone, got kind of a noob question. I got the xbox one for christmas, unexpectedly. Ive been my xbox 360 on this monitor for years now http://www.viewsonic.com/us/va2231wm-led.html i have been using VGA to connect it because it does not have HDMI support. I was wondering if there was anyway i could hook my xbox one up to this? I have heard that VGA to HDMI cables dont actually work because it cant convert analog to digital or something like that. Thanks for any help.

If the monitor has a dvi port you can buy a dvi to hdmi adapter. Most monitors have dvi unless you have a old school crt.

Your monitor has a dvi port, you can buy a dvi to hdmi adapter and it should work.

Yeah it has dvi. I'll definitely check that out. That wouldn't convert sound would it? Anything I could do to get sound?

You will have to use the optical out, there isn't any analog sound options for the Xbox one.

Your monitor has built in speakers, I didn't realize until I read the specs. You can pass sound over hdmi to dvi, I've done it myself and it works. I was assuming you needed a external sound source. Once you get the adapter you should be all set to go.

Wrong.

You will need a DAC.

@asl2006: I've set my system up hdmi to dvi before. The sound worked perfectly, I wouldn't say if I haven't tried it myself.

The HDMI to DVI cable does not carry sound for me. Any way i can get sound? From what it looks like i wont be able to get sound from my monitor because all it has is VGA, DVI, and a headphone jack.
