I got a 360 when it first came out. I don't have one with an HDMI port. My TV supports up too 1080p, but my 360 won't go past 720p. My PS3 displays in 1080p, but not my Xbox!! Is it because I'm using component cables??Jello715i think you need an update available online but it really dont matter most 360 and ps3 games are 720p "NATIVE" all others are UPSCALED theres only a handful of 1080p native games
yes you can get 1080p through component mine does ive done with Super street fighter 2 hd remix which is 1080p NATIVE and you can actually tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on this game because its NATIVE not upscaledYup. 1080p is only possible through hdmi. Component can handle 1080i.

It will display up to 1080p using the VGA cable - not included with the 360, bought seperately. Your TV must have a VGA port (some TV's call it a PC port). I did a lot of research on this as I have an original 360 w/o the HDMI port. Most TV's with a VGA port do NOT display at full 1080p using the VGA port. You will have to check your TV's spec sheet. The Samsungs are one of the only HDTVs I found that properly accept and display a 1080p feed using the VGA port. None of the Panasonics do - at least the ones I looked at in 2008, when I bought my Samsung. Great 1080p picture from the 360 using the VGA cable. Hope that helps!

Choose the option to join xbox live, select a silver membership (which is free) and once you're done registering make sure you're connected to the internet. Download the update and you can do 1080p.
If you've never connected your Xbox to the internet you should get a free month of Xbox Live Gold when you connect it too. But yeah... all updates are free. Also, if you look around online you can fine Xbox Live Gold 12+1 month cards for around $39.99. I just renewed mine and got it for that shipped.
