got the slim 250gb xbox a few months ago but there's something thats bugging me and that's my slim xbox freezes more, becomes unresponsive alot more than my elite. Anyone else feel this? I bought them both new (never preowned) so there was no history of them. It might just be my xbox though

I'm actually on my third slim right now because apparently I'm an unlucky sod but even the two that bit the dust didn't freeze up on me. Something about your xbox doesn't seem right :\

a hotter cpu doesnt mean slower. if anything it would be his HDD if he streams a lot from there. i have gone from a launch console to a S and all i notice is a swear HALO 1 didnt run that bad on my launch 360, seems to chug a lot more.

My xbox slim seams to be faster than my elite, it's also proven to be more reliable than the old 360's.

A hotter CPU will slow. especially in a console.

but this should not be the case unless his is faulty (dud chip). the xbox S draws half as much power as the original models and has a fan and heatsink RIGHT next to a vent instead of the wind tunnel style from the original model. in horizontal position the heat should be venting very easily becasue hot air rises easier.

As well as preventing computer crashes and system instability, computer cooling can cause the computer to run faster. In a CPU, electrons travel between atoms at the speed of light. Resistors are always built into semiconductors, which add resistance and keep the electrons from reaching their target as quickly. This process is also slowed down by heat. The hotter the CPU is, the more energy the atoms have and farther apart they become, which means that the electrons must now travel further, leading to longer times. This makes the CPU slower (Conditioning, 2002, How Does the CPU Basically Work section, para. 4-7). Thus, if the CPU were colder, the atoms would have less energy, and they would be closer together, which would allow the electrons to travel faster between them.
