Xbox360 hardware failure cause of fan?

The other day that i just happened to be moving into my new place, my 360 broke. I checked online for answers cause i was getting the 3 rings red, just not the one in the right top corner. It had like these suggestions but none of them seemed to work. I am getting it sent to microsoft but i still dont have a 360 for like 2 weeks, which like blows. I asked around and found a few answers. A friendinformed me that the 360's overheat from a lot of use over a long time. In time it melts away the soldering. Causing the fan to not work. He says u just open it up and re-solder the connection. Is this true?

not too sure seeing as some 360s havecome straight out the box faulty so i wouldnt class that as long use, i just guess its how some of them were made, i read that the GPU or watever warps away from the board from too much heat causing the 3 red lights or something :S cant remember exactlyhellrazor06

any1 with a 360 can make a fake red lights of death video just by unhooking the av cables..

Unless the video is of bad quality, it would be noticeably fake as when you unplug the AV cables 4 red lights shine, as opposed to the 3 red lights that shine in the case of a hardware failiure.
