Can the 360 be set horizontally and if so is it flat on the top?

Yes and yes, though its not a good idea to stack stuff on top of it. Give it plenty of room to allow air to circulate and prevent overheating problems

Kind of didn't think about the heating issue. Well, I wasn't planning on putting anything too bulky on it and I do need the room for it so hopefully it will be alright.

Personally I think it's better off horizontal. When I had mine vertical, everytime I put a disk in it sound like it got caught in the tray or something, I was scared. But when I turned it over, no noise. :)

If you're going to place it horozontal, don't stack anything on it regardless of weight. Anything on-top of it can heat the console up more.

The elite doesn't really have any overheating problems though does it?
