so XMB comes out for PSN on the 2nd of July which blatantly replicates the features of xbox live. Now, I'm more than happy to pay my $60 a year, as i believe it's worth it to pay for a superior service. With playstation copying xbox's ideas.....
what do we get? considering they will have the exact same features as us now, for free?

You've demonstrated that you don't have a PS3, and probably that you've not used one either.
They aren't "getting" XMB (Cross Media Bar), as this has always been on the PS3. What they are getting is an update (v2.40). About once a month Sony release a new version of XMB, as they constantly tweak, repair, refine and add new bits. This update has been expected for a long time, and keeps getting delayed.
MS on the other hand reduce the disruption by doing two planned updates each year. OK no official spring update, though there were two system updates prior to GTAIV launch, but we still have a better service than PSN get, even with their new update. The Live blades work very well and easily to allow you to contact and invite friends to games. With the PS3 chat gets limited to people in the same game, and reading messages requires you to quit out of games to read them.
Now MS can see what Sony are releasing, and work on what they are going to include in the autumn update.
