Dead Rising for being the zombie game that really got it right (for me and the way I like to play zombie games).
Halo: Combat Evolved for the story, the setting, for getting vehicles in an FPS right, for adding in co-op that was awesome, and of course, the multiplayer.
Fallout 3 for the atmosphere and ambiance.
Gears 1 for visually blowing me away with it's visuals.
Saints Row 2 for being the crazy fun over-the-top crime game I wanted GTA4 to be.
That's just from this gen of course. I could add in all kinds of EPIC memorable things from earlier eras in gaming.

As awesome and fun as Dead Rising was, there are too many technical flaws in it.
And Saints Row 1 is better than 2 imho.
Fair enough on both counts. But DR's technical flaws weren't enough to sully the experience for me personally. I don't dispute that it was flawed mind you. But I had an HD TV when I played it so the small text didn't bother me and I am older than most gamers and remember a time when games didn't even have a save system so the single slot for saving also didn't bother me. So I view it from a unique perspective. I know I'm one of the only people who feel this way which is why I made the little disclaimer in parenthesis. It's just one of my personal favorites, warts and all.
As for Saints Row 1 vs 2, well the first game didn't let me hurl any random person with the touch of a button. So I give it to SR2 for adding that and all the extended customization options. Plus I preferred having a character who spoke more than an occasional one-liner. But none of that is meant to slight the original, which was an amazing game.
I was also going to edit my post, but since I'm here in a reply I'll do this here. I meant to type "Halo series" instead of "Halo: Combat Evolved".
