cheater_1's QUICK review. A no-nonsense, to the point, FACT filled review for the masses.
Gran Turismo is better on nearly every SINGLE level. In today's high capacity DVD age, there is simply NO reason to have about a dozen tracks with variations of each one. Having several different versions of Mugello = ONE TRACK. Laziness on the DEVS part.
Graphics are unimpressive. You get a MUCH more realistic sense of driving in Grand Theft Auto. The clouds NEVER move. The trees NEVER move. The same bird chirps the SAME time as you go around the same corner every time. The environment is so static that tracks becomes boring in a hurry. No atmosphere. Flat. Unchanging.
No music. You don't even have the option to listen to music while you're driving, as in Gran Turismo. Listening to the engine reving and tires screeching gets TEDIOUS in a hurry.
No director mode. The endurance races in GT were like a separate game within a game. In Forza2, you can't control a SINGLE thing. You sit back and watch your car race around the track for an hour. You cant tell it when to pass or when to pit or to speed up the game. A pure BLUNDER on Turn 10's part.
Cars don't behave realistically. Having driven a VIPER before with stock parts, I can tell you that I don't slide around corners at 50 mph like I'm driving on ice. In addition, the AI drivers LOVE to give you the PIT maneuver all the time which sends your car CRASHING uncontrollably nose first into a wall every time. The physics of it all needs some MAJOR tweaking.
The GOOD:
I like the DAMAGE factor. Your car will run worse if you collide head on with a wall at 150 mph.
The customization of car graphics is superb.
I obviously can't recommend purchasing this game. Remember people, I am looking out for YOU and your hard earned $$$. If you converted from PlayStation to Xbox, as I have, and have a need for a GT-esque racing sim, this is your ONLY bet. Rent it for the weekend. That's all you'll need to get the full experience of this game.
