Frastrating, but far from worthless

User Rating: 8.4 | Frantix: A Puzzle Adventure PSP
Frantix will never go down in the hall of fame as one of the greatest games of our time. It is, however, an enjoyable experience if you know what it is you're getting. Devoid of plot, difficult to understand, and hard to control...sounds worthless, right? But Frantix is not a game designed to offer you any of those things.

Frantix is what it claims to be...a puzzle game. There is no adventure, no mind-shattering graphics, no chances to prove you're better than your friends. What the game offers are a series of puzzles to challenge your mind and reflexes. And oh boy, are there a whole lot of puzzles.

Each level offers two objectives...getting through the level by any means available within a generous amount of time, and a second and much more intense experience trying to get the level done in the minimum time possible. Each level is essentially played twice...once to challenge your brain, the second time to challenge your reflexes.

The puzzles can be simplistic at first, but as you get farther in the game you will find yourself confronted with complex challenges. Each level will challenge your puzzle-solving skills, and then dare you to try it again in fast forward. Many a level has left my heart pounding, and a few have caused me to cheer out loud after thwarting them.

At first, I was left wondering what the deal was with this title...simple puzzles, basic gameplay, no storyline...but the first time I finished a seies of deft, complex moves with .02 seconds left on the clock I understood. Every move must be precise, every path must be perfect, and once you nail it....oh, what a feeling.

This is a frenetic game for the hard core. If you are an FPS junkie who lets out a long series of moans every time someone puts a puzzle between you and your next set of targets, move on. If, however, you're a skilled gamer looking for a title that can push your reflexes to the limit while challenging your mind, grab this game.
